Well, I made the call... Stagemate.

Sounds good Brother Fred...:)

We just sent Carvin a small order the other day. We found some speaker stand bags on their site and ordered 2 and 1 boom mic stand.

Good deal. :)

Carvin didn't offer the tripod stand bags when we ordered ours. I really need to order a bag for them. Procrastination is my biggest vice. Well, that and Old-Timer's Disease, lol.

We've still got the old boom mic stand I got at RS back in the '90s. We haven't used it in years... but I think it will see service for this beach wedding. :)

Actually the bags are going to be used by Coreen for carting her tripods and off-lighting stands. :)

I'm old school and use my boom stand for my wired mic for personal use and then send the wireless out on the floor for use by the clients.

Thanks, Brother Kirb. Please give Miz Coreen "the long suffering wife" Ball our best. Shirl says Hello. :)

Ya know, I never thought of doing that. We keep a wired mic on hand should we need it but usually use the wireless for announcements and whatnot. The wired mic hardly ever gets used.

We'll pass the wireless around for toasts and all... and can always key the corded mic if needed. :)

I started doing that awhile back as many times I have to boost the gain on the mics on the floor as most people hold the mic at waist level even though we give each one of them a crash course in proper mic usage.

Of course boosting the volume on the mic means that I have to remember to drop it when I get it back....and after forgetting to do so a couple of times I decided to go with using both...:sqwink:

BTW, it's a Carvin..... was there really ANY DOUBT what Fred would end up with? :sqerr::sqlaugh:

Only after much research and reading positive reviews, my friend. All things Carvin pro sound aren't necessarily great. Some of it is rebranded crapola, ie Nady wireless mics. Ya gotta do yer research. ;)

To help Ron out a little!

Frequency response for the Stagemate actually has a better lowend performance than the Bose L1 (unless you add the B1 computer subs with it and then it isn't that much under what the Stagemate will produce 65hertz versus 80 hertz)

Power consumtion for the L1 alone at unity is 10 amps add the sub and you increase that to almost 16! On the other hand the Stagemate only draws 8 amps at unity and has a frequency range of 80 to 1600 hertz (about 250 hertz more range than the L1 is capable of)

There is one package to carry for the Stagemate and zero setup time!

I use the Fender Passport for the same purpose but there is more setup time I have to carry the "extra battery pack" The only difference is I get a "stereo" system (not that it makes any difference since i always run mono) and I get the same frequency response as the Bose system!
No, that doesn't help me out at all since I wasn't trying to compare it to an L1 nor an L1 compact. The amps, bass response, frequency, etc doesn't mean a damn thing to me. I'm illiterate when it comes to that stuff. I just want to know how they sound. Either it's good or it's not.

This might be a nice little rental is what I'm looking at. And the only thing people would care about is, how easy is it to run and how good does it sound. Less than two shots out the door and I'd have it paid for if I rented it out. This way I could sell it before I even bought it knowing it will handle certain functions. And I wouldn't be as concerned about a unit like this with damage as much as my compacts using them as rentals.

Brother Ron,

Funny you should mention that. We're a few miles north of a market that has a lot of beach weddings. In time, once I get things set up the way I want 'em, we may offer the Stagemate with wireless mics as a rental for our compadres Downstate. :)

People love the power of doing something themselves. Since everyone under the sun owns an iPods, why not? As long as it's charged up they should be golden.

Ron,

For simplicty alone I would think the Stagemate would be ideal as a rental PA, I certainly wouldn't send out any of the Bose system as a rental. (why risk having that much money put in jeporady)!

For rentals the simpler you can make setup and funtion (tape over switches, buttons and connections that don't need to be used or touched) My Karaoke rental system (when I was renting one out) I ended up having to enclose everything behind panels and then putting only the connections and switches that they needed to use on the front and rear panels. Damned if some people didn't take a screw driver and remove the panels to get inside to "see what else it could do"!

No experience with the Stagemate, but as far as rentals go, I have two old Peavey 200w instrument amped speakers that I rent to orgs for announcements and auctions, that sort of thing, for $75 bucks along with a wired mic. They seem to get rented a few times a month around here.....

That's my thought exactly. The only problem is, and I know people aren't going to like to hear this but the Bose is a much simpler unit to use for the novice plug and play user. Just compare the panels. Bose L1 compact comes with a simple user friendly quick setup guide card that snaps to the cover. Hope this info helps others as well.

I'm only pointing out the user friendly differences between two pieces of equipment. Weighing the pros and cons over which unit would be a more friendly rental vs. price. If I could setup the Stagemate myself before rental that would save frantic phone calls from the uneducated user. However with the Compact that would all but be eliminated. Plug and play can't be any easier.

As Brendan stated, I'd be much more comfortable using a Stagemate on a sandy beach than the Compact. So all this great information is what is needed to make a clear rational choice on product purchase and it's uses.

Ron,

I agree to a point about the simplicity, and for a rental unit i would be bolting a cover panel over the EQs and gains once I had them set! Leaving only the main volume control available for the customer to put thier fingers on, but then I would do the same thing for the Bose compact if I were renting that out as well!

Ron, with all due respect, this thread is about the Stagemate.
Understandable. So we are not allowed to compare the pros and cons of the product as it relates to others in it's class? Is there another product that is similar we can compare it to? I believe someone had a comparison with another product a few posts ago. I would be interested in others.

You own the Stagemate and others and have different uses for them. I guess this wouldn't be the place to share that info? posted his review, what more is there to say so now we discuss and compare. That's what forums are for. With all due respect.

When I see the Stagemate, know what I think?

"Damn", that would be perfect for Bubble Parties." ( No sarcasm intended ).
Exactly Papa. The more I look at it, the more I hear about it, the more I like it. I was using a mixer with two JBL Eon 10" G2's. Since I bought another speaker that rhymes with nose I've been using that. Mostly because of the ease of setup over the JBL's. I now have another system that will supply my needs at a cost I can deal with. That's why comparison between products is so important. Not fact and figure for me but sound and usage.

Which leads to the following question.... will we one day reach a point where people people hear "Stagemate", and start ripping it without ever hearing it, or understanding that it serves a specific purpose for the owner that buys it? :sqwink:

Seriously, this may be on the 2010 wish list for my Bubble Parties.

The Stagemate is not in the same class as a Bose L1 Compact. You and I both know that.

Here are some products to compare a Stagemate to. I chose them based on these factors:

- 1 box
- Internal Rechargeable Battery
- Similar advertised wattage
- I've seen/heard them all in use.

Alesis Transactive Mobile

Anchor Audio Explorer

Crate Limo

PylePro Battery Powered PA
