So...

I configured send/receive in Outlook to work with my Yahoo account.

I click send receive and every single email in my Yahoo account drained into my Outlook on my computer.

I later found out that I missed a checkbox that sais "Leave copy of message on server" which was Yahoo.

I really just wanted Outlook to receive messages from Yahoo. Not delete them.

Any spiffy way of getting them back to Yahoo in their original state without forwarding them to myself?

Here's what I got back

We're glad to have this opportunity to help you. From the details you've provided, it appears a POP mail client may have deleted your emails. We're sorry but once an email has been deleted by a POP mail client, it's removed from your Yahoo! Mail account. Emails deleted by a POP mail client aren't recoverable.

I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused you.

I've had my Yahoo account forever too and I've slowly been moving to a Gmail I created a while ago. I do prefer some of the ways Yahoo webmail works but was tired of paying $20 a year for POP access when Google offered it for free. Plus, I thought it would be good to start with a fresh e-mail account since right now I'm on way too many e-mail lists.

JTNichol,

GMAIL! Do it now.

I've been using yahoo for many years. However, I don't pay the extra for the POP protocol support. However, you may want to see if they support IMAP in addition to POP. If they do, you might have a "cheater's chance" as I call it.

If they support IMAP, your messages are stored/kept/organized on their servers. They don't get downloaded to your POP client.

So this is what I would do:

I would delete the yahoo account that is currently using the POP client. The emails will be saved, but Outlook will not try to connect to it again.

Then I would set up the Yahoo e-mail service again, this time using the IMAP protocol, rather than the POP protocol.

After this, go back to your Outlook inbox. You should be able to sort your e-mail by "recipient e-mail address" (this would depend on your outlook client, but they should all support this in one way or another). Last, you can re-copy your e-mails from your local Outlook inbox to your yahoo email (IMAP) folders.

Good luck!

What does paying for POP access get you that a normal email account from Yahoo doesn't?

I can send recieve via Outlook, my Phone and other devices that I can setup POP3 access on.... and I'm not paying anything for it.

I purchased it about 5 years ago so I could get emails 20MB in size, pop, and no ads back when nothing the only free email limited you to like 5MB total storage.

I basically bought it for storage and free ads.

I don't want to change it because I'm too lazy to go through all the other accounts tied to it and have them change it too...

The other big reason is I hate it when my friends change their emails all the time. Never understood the reason.

"Hit me up on gmail, hotmail, yahoo, rr, facebook, twitter, myspace, hulu, youtube, youthis, youthat, bebo, linkedin...."

FORGET IT.

$20. I can fart that off on drinks in one round with Rick.

[email protected] 4 lyfe.

Yeah, I change my 'backend' email address semi-frequently. I call it a backend email address because I never give out that address I just hand out my domain based addresses which forward into the backend email, I use Gmail pretty much exclusively for that though.

With Gmail and now Hotmail offering free POP access, Yahoo shouldn't be far behind but if I were tied to a Yahoo address, I'd pay just to get rid of the ad signature. :)
