I stop by www.mac-forums.com semi-frequently very newbie friendly as opposed to some the other Mac forums which bash newbs. 
Where are you in Ontario? There are some Mac enthusiasts groups around here that have meetings regularly and are always willing to help out other Mac users.

This is the mac that my wife just had to have. We've had it a week and now when you boot up it keeps spinning the beach ball of death.
It's like it can't find the o/s. Any suggestions about what I can do? I called Tech support and they're closed because of the holiday.

Pop in the first OS X installer disc, as the machine boots hold down the D key until a menu pops up to choose your boot disk...

If the HW test comes back okay try to check/repair permissions via the disk utility. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh17.html
Lastly if the HW test comes back find and the repair permissions don't work. Hopefully you've got nothing worthwile on the machine..Format and reinstall OS X, then download all your updates via software update from the Apple Menu.
I held down the "D" and nothing happened, so I held down the power button to turn it off and went to bed.

Did it beep at you when it was having trouble booting up? The number of beeps is a code for what is wrong. It sounds to me like you have a bad Ram stick.

Big Dan, I can't find the installer disc. I don't know if one came with the computer. I didn't take it out of the box. (lol)

Yes but it will cost you, Apple will charge you around $40 for a replacement disc. They will tell you that OS discs are machine specific but you can use another person's disc to install.
