At my event Saturday, I broke out some glow bracelets, and the effect was pretty underwhelming - many of them didn't glow at all, and those that did were pretty weak. It then occured to me that I only use these when needed, and I think I bought these in quantity maybe 3-4 years ago. Is this why they sucked? Is it better to buy in smaller quantities, or as needed, even if it brings the cost up?

I have a few more "rolls" of 100 - should I trash them, or can they be "saved" somehow?

I've stored them at "room temperature", do these "stay fresh" longer if I store them in a freezer?

I wouldn't trash them. Just hand them out and tell them "I have a bunch of these and thought you would like to have them" or something like that. Some might not work but at least they got used.

Yeah, glow stuff has a shelf life. I think the average is about a year.

As far as I know, the sooner you use them, the better. I've never waited that long to use glow stuff, but I'll bet that having them for as long as you have may have weakened it. Perhaps the shelf life is like with many drugs in that they have an expiration date where they get weaker.

Steve, I couldn't find any solid resources but an FAQ page for a reseller says:

How long is the shelf life of glow sticks / glow products?
Depending on how they are packaged the shelf life is 1 to 4 years. Items in foil packaging will last for up to 4 years and bulk items (no foil packaging) have usually just over a 1 year shelf life.-Source

I bought a bulk load once, when I was in the running for a couple of school jobs and some 16th birthdays. I ended up throwing about 1/3 of them away. I think they will last longer if you keep them cool, like in a fridge.

Buying them foil wrapped ( Mine come 6 to a pkg) and keeping them cold will extend the shelf life- but make sure they arrive at the event at room temperature or above.

Also, unlike straight sticks, bracelets, when bent, have more places for the broken inner tubing to get jammed. Sometimes it takes a bit harder shaking while they are still straight to get full brightness all the way through...

Mine did not come foil-wrapped. Is there an advantage to this? I have some newer bracelets - should I put them in foil and freeze them, until I need them?

I wouldn't freeze them..... you run the risk of them exploding..... refridgerate below 50 degree's would be ok.... but avoid freezing them.

Seconded....:sqcool: Wrapping in foil after the fact won't be much help- only factory sealing makes a difference.

I don't know what you're paying, but I get a 6 pack for a buck- foil sealed- at the local Dollar Tree store

I looked into buying a bulk box but had heard of this before. I buy them in a pack of 6 for $1 at the dollar store, they're foil wrapped and i've yet to have one not work.

young...

How do you package something like this for events?

I've thought about doing this but since I don't have any marketing photo's yet.... and no idea what to charge or how to package it... I haven't done it.

I have a Sweet 16 coming up in August and have thought about getting some and just passing them out for the sake of being able to shoot photo's of the kids dancing with them.

I open them at home, and put them - with connectors already at one end- in a plastic zip lock bag until ready to use.

I can't help you with marketing them, as I just toss them out into the crowd for free...

We use a ton if glow stuff the shelf life is about a year. Every once in a while I will get some bad ones but I just tell my supplier and they take care of it on the next order. As far as marketing goes with my schools I give them $.50 for every glow item we sale and the can apply it towards there bill for there dance. This works get for me because I only sell necklaces and the 1.5 in mouth sticks. We sell every thing for $2.00 a piece or 3 for $5. I have a couple schools that do all the selling for me and I have two schools that haven't paid for one of there dances in over two years. And the top selling school sells over 500 pieces every month 8 months a year. And the best part is I almost always get paid cash. And if any of you buy these things in bulk you know I'm making money on both ends. The schools know I'm making money buy they don't care because they don't have to do any work and they get a free dance.
