what is the better (best) download site for LEGAL mp3's?
I am well aware of Itunes,
but I have heard other sites mentioned here..
and would love to get opinions on them.

Which ones have you used,
and why do you like or, or hate it?

Illegal downloads of musical files will cost a Minnesota woman $1.9 million, a jury has decided.
Jammie Thomas-Rasset's case was the first such copyright infringement case to go to trial in the United States, her attorney said.
Attorney Joe Sibley said that his client was shocked at the fine, noting that the price tag on the songs she downloaded was 99 cents.

She plans to appeal, he said.
 
I started with Wally-Mart DLs then switched to Amazon when they got their selection built up. Amazon DLs don't contain copy protection or DRM code. Or so I understand, anyway.

What got the gal in MN in trouble was making song files available to others for download via Kazaa before Kazaa got religion. Music files aren't shareware. Purchasing DL music for your own use is clear and legal. Don't share the files, though. :)
 
Fred if the downloads are all mp3's then they wont be a drm protected format only you download anything else BUT a mp3 then the flood gates get open and you run the risk of having DRM inbedded in the song :( not good
 
You can use audacity to go from VBR to CBR.

The reason the RIAA does not go against downloaders is that there is no money to be made. They could probably only hit you for the retail of each song. Providing upload content is a whole other issue. That's were the money's at. The title to the article is very misleading
 
With the prices of used CDs on amazon it seems like a better deal to just buy CDs rather than download mp3s. You can download an mp3 album for $8.95 and buy the CD for $5.95, why would you want to download it? Every CD I've received has been in near new condition. I've bought CDs for $3.98 and shipping was $2.98 of the price, who cares? Where can you buy a CD for $3.98? The only better deal I've found was at my local flea market where I bought a few CDs for $2 each. I use a program called Quintessential player to rip them at high bit rates and it's nearly effortless. Download if you want, but I'm buying CDs for less money and I have the hard copy as backup.
 
When downloading MP3s for the toy it's almost ALWAYS Amazon, maybe a bit of Napster, and NEVER iTunes, which has all kinds of compatability problems with other software.

that compatability issue is one of the reasons I started the thread
I had heard that SOME of these sites were very "particular"...
 
as long as you test them first and see if they offer the format you need then you wont have that problem


personally I use nothing but mp3's
 
Amazon first, especially since their selection keeps growing.

I-Tunes second, if I can't find it on Amazon.

I'm with Wiz and if I've got the time to shop for the disc, and can find it used I'll buy the disc instead and then rip that puppy for future use.

I buy the downloads, only if there is a time limitation on when I need it or if it's some really horrible group that I never, ever want to have any of their music on a full CD... :sqwink:
 
I use Amazon and Rhapsody like Mike I do this only when I need it right now and have been unable to get it delivered or purchased on CD album!
