I had a Pioneer CD player that was just godawful... I bought it off ebay, and it was fine for months, and then it went haywire. It would skip or not, on any given day. Actually I still own it but haven't even looked at it in a few years.

Technica Wireless Mics

Bought them - tried to save cash as they were fairly low cost relatively (but still not "cheap") -- sounded like someone was talking into a can. No amount of E.Q. could help. Also Tons of interference.

Had to trash them and bought Shure.... sounded just like an SM58

Bought a wireless mic set (2 mics & base unit, con't remember the brand).....Sounded like I had my fist in my mouth.

Dumped them, bit the bullet and bought a Shure wireless mic and haven't looked back. :sqwink:

Second Radio Shack mixer, that was a real piece of junk.

American DJ Mister Kool Fog Machine
CRAP!

Well.... I'd have to say it was the Ampex corded mic I used in the beginning.

That thing was poor to say the least. It was something I picked up at a flea market for a few dollars. It had very little gain and would cause feedback rings if the mixer gain was increased. Unbalanced, a 6-foot cord with a 1/4" TS phone plug.

I guess I have to put it into three seperate catagories.

Cheap:

Gemini dual CD player - Absolute junk

Expensive:

Denon DN9000 - continuous problems out of the box, the replacement I was sent was just as bad!

Real damn expensive:

Bose L1 - absolute waste of money for the way I work and what I expect from a speaker, but a pair would have been great for a TV room speaker system (I just don't watch that much TV) But I have to give Bose credit for their money back policy!

I had a VocoPro (Pro my Arse) single tray CDG player that I had bought because it was rackmountable, well it came with rack ears anyway.

I used it once and threw it on ebay the very next day.....

When playing music ever Ssssss and other Sssssounds were Exsssssssentuated...... nearly drove me nuts.... N Ssssssssync sssssongsssss were the worssssst.

My first pair of cabs - Pyle Pro 15's.

Sound wasn't as bad as you'd think - it was the construction that was piss-poor.

Metal corners all came off quickly.

HF horn socket cracked right where the driver screwed into it.

And the worst - Pole-mount cup separated from the mounting ring during a gig and I watched helplessly as my cab slid down on the pole about 10". Luckily, the pole didn't impale the woofer so the show was able to go on... :)

The woofer actually wasn't that bad - it had a nice tight and well-defined sound in the lower-mids. I actually ended up swapping them out for the stock speakers the *slightly* more expensive cabs I got to replace them!:sqlaugh:

Pyle is right.... Pyle of what, I'll let YOU decide!

I had a VocoProNE TO CAUSE HEADACHES TO THE USER

The decided not to use the description as it would take up most of the space in the faceplate :sqlaugh::rofl::sqlaugh::rofl::sqlaugh:

Well... I gotta admit that the Gemini front end kit I paid nearly a grand for in 2000 was a POS. I worked with it 'til it became old school and sold it all. It really used to piss me off to see a certain someone at DJC promoting the stuff like it was God's gift to DJs... while dissing my Carvin FOH rig at the same time.

Honestly, that Gemini front end was never right. There were some CDs they wouldn't read nor cue. The decks had no buffer memory so I had to build a springboard to mount it on. That stopped the skipping but it didn't stop the cutouts that occurred at higher volume levels. I even got private messages from forum members who had owned the same kit, asking if I was having the issues they had with it.

Then the mic circuitry in the mixer started cutting out. It was time to move on and up. Dis Carvin all ya want... but I've yet to have a single issue with my Carvin mixer board, processing, amps or speaker cabs. I cannot say the same for Gemini. :)

Consider the source.... :sqlaugh:

I can't go with just one:

Microphone: A corded RSQ P-10. This the one that I oft describe as tough as nails- unfortunately- because it sounded like you were singing into a baseball mitt. I've actually had cheaper mics, but NONE worse.

Speakers: TechniPro, a drunken 4am E-bay buy without thinking for small parties. Sounded "ok", but blew at a bit over 25% of their rating. Got what I paid for.

CD Player- 2 RJ Tech cheapies given to me as a gift from a friend who owned a shop- kind of a testing scenario. One's video output blew in a week, the other's tray literally fell out within a month. I was never dumb enough to take them out of the house, though.
