The weekend of the 5th is gonna be busy...

Goodknight, I commend you on doing the relay and then turning around and doing a wedding. I could not do that and perform at 100%.

Scott:

You'd be surprised at what you can do when you put your mind to it. It actually has been a rather fun weekend. Sure, I'm tired but God blessed me with the ability to pull it off. One thing that did help was the Five Hour Energy drink.

As I told the bride when it was all over, "And we did it without the Chicken Dance, Electric Slide, and only one cheesy song."

BTW, we got tipped with food after the wedding. My assistant and I took home several plates of pit beef. My wife and I are having pit beef sandwiches for supper tonight.

And, it doesn't give you the right to step into this disagreement. :sqwink:

Actually, when Tommy posted in public his childish comment to Bill, I gained the right to stick my nose into it. Tommy could have sent that in a private message but he opted to make it public, so he can deal with the callaterial damage like a big boy.

I am tired of Tommy and his childish attitude. He has been run off of other respected DJ boards for good reason. After his tiff with Peter Merry I lost ALL respect for him. Actually, I lost most respect for him after watching him perform in the DJ of the Year Competition at DJEXPO 2007. He embarrased himself.

I haven't been run off any DJ boards and by saying that I have been run off other "respected" DJ boards you just insulted all the other DJs on this board.

This board is the only one I choose to participate with. I am still a respected member of all the others.

So, why don't you just go back to your Merry Faries.

Well this thread really made me reconsider the weekend I had all I'll say is Tom had more sleep than I did. Really it's not that big a deal. If you tried it every weekemd you would be dead and out of business but it can be done once in a while.

BTW, I have been asked about the height of the speakers in a PM and I thought I'd share the answer.

This is not my normal height. I wanted to take advantage of the height of the tent and the angle of the tent ceiling to improve the acoustics. It worked.

hopefully Zamboni's vacation will bid him fond farewell since he only visited on rare occasion, This being the most consecutive responses in his membership thus far. I can hope to see him only post again 2 or 3 times in the next year.

Read the edit.

I just think Mr. Kexel has a poor attitude. He is assuming that I did not share this with the client. As soon as she asked to move the date I told her. She was very cool with it.

Alright, alright already! Jeez, sounds like someone didn't get enough sleep!
You say I have a poor attitude because I disagreed/questioned your method?
Jeez, get over it!

As long as the bride knew beforehand, that's fine. (I really don't care)
But, I have read posts from DJs that brag about how many gigs they can pull off in one weekend, I wonder if all the clients knew this beforehand. Nothing like having a burned out, sweaty DJ show up at the biggest event of your life.

Whether you are DJing for a cause for pleasure, it really doesn't matter to a bride who has planned & dreamed about this date all her life. Just because a DJ can squeeze in other gigs, or doesn't not know how to turn away gigs is not always fair to the client.

BUT..in your case, you said the bride knew it beforehand & was fine with it, than I guess everyone's happy.

Gotten over... :sqwink:

Well I think you do or you wouldn't have said anything. It is OK if you do care. But please don't assume that the client didn't know. The only thing I haven't told all my clients yet is that I'm leaving the business and that is because I don;t want them to freak out. BTW, this one knew that as well.

Which is why I only normally do one event per day.

The energy of this crowd was infectious. I had played "Thank God I'm A Country Boy" during cocktails; it was on her cocktail list. I was working on a rap/hip hop set and got an overwhelming number of requests for it again; I mean about twenty in the space of two or three minutes so, what the hell, I played it again in the middle of a high energy rap/hip hop set. I followed up with Rocky Top and blew the energy even higher. Go figure but all that energy keep me going.

I wouldn't do it again even if I was staying in the business.

Bill, I got your point and I apologize for jumping on you. I agree that we need to manage our time to have the energy to maintain a good presentation to our clients.

BTW, I also mentioned that we had to briefly shut down so that the generator could be moved and the extensions shortened. We got lots of awww's when we made the announcement. We were down for less than five minutes but it was worth it. When the lights were kicked in my Furman went from 223 to 216. After the change the meter went up to 219 and stayed steady the rest of the night.

Got run off. People got tired of his whining and long winded posts-"look at me, look at me". Nearly every discussion of his degenerated into a steaming pile of dung for some reason. Hopefully he is communing with the Lord and at peace. I hope he can find some happiness.

Is this fair to your wedding clients?
I used to do multiple gigs & found that I was very burned out at the next gig.

That's you and you're energy level - not mine.

If you're a part time DJ is it fair to the bride that you've been moonlighting on another job all week? Shouldn't you be limiting yourself to just her big day? LOL.

I've had "weeks" (yes, I said weeks, not weekends) that make Tom's adventure look like a spa treatment.

It's none of the Bride's business how I do my job. She hired me to deliver a specified result - period.

How I arrive at that result and how I profit from it is none of her business. I'm a service provider - not a servant.

Kinda funny isn't it - I called Tommy Boy out on this thread a month or so ago and I got banned. I come back and he has been run off for the exact thing I called him out for.

Life is funny sometimes.

For the record:

Tom was not run off. He asked that his account be removed.

I was being sardonic. He committed DJ BB suicide. I'm sure he's a nice guy in person, but online he just seemed to be an attention whore and a complainer. He needs to get a life outside of the internet. Honestly I don't understand his fascination for all things DJ considering he had grown weary of it and was retiring from it.
