It actually ads an extra layer by of protection by encrypting the files with a proprietary DRM, just incased the rare hacker actually cracks our streaming (almost impossible), nevertheless, if successful, the files would be completely useless outside VDJ.
I'm glad you like the new feature. Its primary intent is to be used with the second major feature called MusicGroups (from the official AP press release going out tomorrow):
"This allows Virtual DJ users to show the world what they play. It allows the DJ to get together with others who share his/her musical tastes, create individual groups, and upload playlists to be displayed in Virtual DJ's community section. What makes this revolutionary is the fact that people can "subscribe" to the MusicGroups of DJ's, or groups/gernes they like. They will then receive personalized feeds, directly inside Virtual DJ live, during a performance. Essentially, if your not sure what you want to mix into, and you are relying on MusicGroups to make a suggestion, more often than not, you'll probably not have that track locally. Ergo, NetSearch.
Is this feature intended to be a replacement for Professional subscription services? Absolutely not. As mentioned earlier in this thread, it's a convenience for that rare request you don't have, or the suggestion you like to try. As also noted, quality is totally a crap shoot. With that in mind, we are exploring partnerships that would ensure premium quality and availability of the latest and greatest.
As for me, some of you may recognize my name, I was the previous GM at PCDJ, up until I left in Dec last year. Since mid January, I've been setting up the official Atomix Productions office here in Los Angeles, which includes our new local support phones lines, for the US and Canada (Europe coming soon). This is going to be a great year for Virtual DJ, it's users, and the DJ community!
