Justin's concept of throwing out the first few songs for the older crowd is a good one and one that I have used to great success many times. I have thrown out Mustang Sally as a crossgenerational song to get the dancing started many times.

The high points of a person's life is another good demographic. As Jeff indicates, high school and college are good points.
