It's that one that sits in the tray with a red shield and telss you that you have problems so click here, kind of a thing.

That computer doesnt' go on line but once a year to update stuff. Any ideas?

I have this gamevance32.exe malware.... can't seem to find a way to get rid of it.... it isn't exactly a nasty one, but I want it gone, nonetheless.

Malwarebytes Anti-malware will help you out i hope so. Cos it was really big help for me when i got some trojans that not even popular antivirus programmes could detect. And Avast (free home edition) is wonderful.. Its scans are deeprooted and seem to detect anything!
:) Just google em up and u'd find the url..if u have a problem pls do let me know and i;ll send it to you...just cant do it now..cos am browsing from my mobile! ;)

I went way too long in cleaning up both of my computers and allowing them to go unprotected, so this past week, I spent two nights getting them cleaned back up, installed new utilities and running a lot faster. I belive I was successful in removing all the problems.

This link may help in removing some of most popular viruses: http://www.avg.com/virus-removal. (I think I had about all of them! ;))

I know there's a lot of tools out there and they all promise to remove everything but the only way to be sure all remnants of the malware is gone is a full format and reinstall. I don't know about you but I'd rather spend an evening formatting, installing, and patching than worry about the security of my data.

when it comes to malware and spyware I head to one site for this if I dont know how to get rid of it....

find the page at www.spywarewarrior.com

its great site you do a hijack this log and post it and the guys will give you the correct program and all....

used it many a time on peoples systems

well we have sorted this one out :) right Hugh!!

Are you talking about this little red shield Hugh?

That's just a Windows security alert -- you probably have UAC turned off, firewall off, etc. Right click on it, and open the security center :)

Dennis. What can I say? You have stepped up so big for this one man show in So Cal. THANKS!! Unfortunately, it is the
DJ computer we worked on (And now runs like a new sports car BTW), while the post is about my laptop.

Rick, the last time I had that shield I clicked on it and my computer popped up with every strange visual you can imagine. Then it died. Had to buy a new HD and start from scratch. Lost lots of stuff. I might follow your advice, but only after I back up everything again (Just filled my external with this last project) and have time to wipe, and rebuild it, just in case. So the question is, "Are you sure it's not that trojan/virus/bad-guy?" I did have a suspicious guy in my start up that I unchecked and it went away (The red shield did anyway), but the boot up sequence is still very slow. Just now I checked the start up and it wasn't there anymore. Interesting. Still real nervous.

Anyone else have any ideas on that shield thingy?

I always have my shield on Hugh, because I have UAC turned off on my computers.

When you click on it, it should show something like this. It's Window's way of telling you you are not totally secure.

If yer unsure, open up Task Manager, and start Googling the names of the exe's in the Processes tab. There's a zillion sites that will tell you what each one is.

Rick,

I had the same 'shield' that So Cal mentions.....it was a trojan playing like it was something from Windows, even using the same red shield. When you clicked on it, it might give you a spill about how you needed to buy this particuliar software to protect your computer or while you were on the net, it would give you tons of pop ups with all kinds of crap. It was a nasty one to get rid of. All is good now.

That's my fear Randy. Lost my lappy last year from it.

Rick, I greatly respect your knowledge, but I have to be sure here. Just nervous from experience. Same one as Randy.

Totally cool with that :)

Some bugs do masquerade as system tools.

I'm incredibly pleased with ESET Smart Security -- it won't even let me onto a website that is compromised. It's fast and unobtrusive, and I never even have to run a scan -- it does everything in real time.

Best $49 I ever spent in my life :)

Wish I had written it -- I could have a new boat, and somebody else to drive it...

Another one that may have been EMBEDDED in your PC from day one.

This has been happening to a LOT of people lately.

If you bought a PC that included Trend Micro or WinPC anti-virus, it will eventually turn on you when it expires. You will start getting a bazillion popups telling you that your computer is under attack, blah blah... constantly.

You'll have to delete Trend Micro or WinPC and do a system restore. However, in regard to the WinPC there may be a problem. The program line "WinPCav.exe" may not allow deletion, and you will have to download PC Clean or some other software to get rid of it.

Ok Hugh will have to do something about that real soon -- you know how
