Are Gem audio speaker cheap crap or are they reasonable equipment. My bet is junk, but if never hurts to ask.

Put it this way... my buddy's brother is a sales rep for them.... He wouldn't even sell them to me as a backup system. :sqerr::sqeek:

Here are some brands that you should consider for speakers:Yamaha, Peavey, Electro Voice, Bose, Community, Carvin, QSC, Yorkville, Samson, FBT, RCF and even Behringer. I'm not a fan of Mackie or JBL, but there are a lot of people who are.

Stay away from brands like Gem Sound, Phonic, Technical Pro, Pyle Pro, Acoustic Audio, MTX, Pyramid and Kustom.

A good starter system is the B-52 Matrix 1000. Around $700. It comes with 2 speakers and a subwoofer. The subwoofer powers the two speakers. For the money it's decent.

I could be wrong... am thinking these off-brands are low cost OEM pieces that are branded to the customer's specifications.

I've seen them in Rent A Center in Dover. According to the manager they're mostly rented by church groups for special services and people throwing parties. Sometime bands will rent 'em for outdoor gigs.

Typically, the sensitivity and tone of these cabinets is poor.

Thanks again for the info everyone. I was actually looking at the JBL's with the dual 15" and loaded horn, but I will definitely check out some of the other brands.
I looked at the Bill Maurice speakers. Experience tells me that piezo horns are crap. And a good case has to be designed around the drivers you want to use. Their probably descent sounding but if you actually took the time and did the math a better box could be designed for your particular driver. Folded horns also have a tendency to be a little sluggish.
I wish there was a pro audio shop in the area. That's how I have always bought speakers in the past. Just go in and listen to them. Push em pretty hard and see if you like them. If you by the specs their all identical. That's the main reason I have been asking so many "stupid" questions on here. I have to rely on your ears and expertise.... Thanks again.

You can't be too far from a Pro-Audio store.... last time I was in IL you could hardly swing a dead cat without hitting a Guitar Center.... among other places...

How close are you to Gary Gands?

Ok to tell you where I live at. If you look on a map and see where Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri meet. I live EXACTLY right there. I cross one bridge I am in Iowa, I hit the next one I am in Missouri. And believe me there is nothing within a couple hours that has anything unless you need a clarinet for the high school band. The couple of places I have found can order anything you want, but carry nothing for inventory that's worth more than the stand alone Karaoke amp with microphone included if you know what I mean. I guess that is why most guys in the area have Radio Shack gear.
