Its here! SKB DJ Station with Lockable Lid

I think this is almost a very viable alternative plus you can use with the accompanying Roto Roller which provides a nice rolling base.

The Roto Mini GigRig is also 10 spaces on top and 6 on the bottom, fully covered with a locakble hard lid. The DJ station does with a flimsy cover which is its only fault, but I still love its light weight.

I'm not a big fan of the "plastic" look.
Not only scuff marks, But after a couple cold winters & hot summers, I would imagine there will be cracks.

It looks like something the caterer would wheel food around the kitchen in.

Has SKB done away with the metal latches on these cases? I didn't see them in the photos.

Bill, we've been loading our SKB rack cases since 2000. They've ridden on the back of an open pickup truck in extreme cold and heat, gotten rained and snowed on. I don't suggest doing this, just saying. They still look good, no scuffs are visible. And we've been rough on 'em, too.

We cover the rack stack with a drape so it's not visible during the shows. :)

I wonder what it looks like from the back with the top cover off... that's the only view they're not showing us, and I'm guessing it might be because it offers a birds-eye view of wiring and mixer jacks. Has anyone seen it up close?

Both have a back cover with a gap to allow power and other cables to come out of it... I had the DJ Shuttle.

So you can close the back up and still have your necessary wires come out.

I'm aware of the back cover, as I also have a DJ Shuttle. Take a look at that top cover though... it covers a fair portion of the back panel, and I have a feeling that once the top cover is removed, the backside of whatever's in the top rack panel is exposed.

I think this is the back. You can leave it wide open like in Ricks pic or put the cover back on. The Top is separate from the fronts/back so Im sure you could cover the back to have a neat look.

On one of my Amp Racks also an SKB, I used a door hole drill to make a circle cut right in the middle of the x and it looks clean. That looks like the only shortcoming to this one. Its got no pass thru for the cable like the DJ Station.

I have used this as my main case for 3 + years. I love it.

^ The soft isnt really just a soft fabric. There is a peice of wood inside the cover. Its just the manner of how its secured that is less ideal. My biggest gripe is that when in transport, because of the nature of the cover, and the slant shape, you cannot stack anything on top of it. If you need 10/6 spaces go with the mini gig rig which is a bit more price wise but has a more conventional cover if the soft cover concerns you. It really hasnt been a problem for me.

So there is actually some wood (even tho not much) inside the soft cover. Believe it or not that makes me feel somewhat better. I imagined that it was nothing more then a piece of fabric with velcro or something along those lines.

Now I can't decide if I want to get the molded skb case with soft cover or a road ready flight case with soft cover.......I currently have my turntables and 10" mixer in road ready cases and I think my new set up would look good in a matching case. However I don't know many occasions where I would take out both my turntables and my new set up (numark dmc2 + c3usb mixer+vdj)

Should I go for the lighter skb molded case or get matching cases for all my gear?

:sqconfused:

I owned the SKB DJ Shuttle with the slant 10 bottom 6U.... the soft cover is not ridged.... and is definately not suitable for stacking anything on top of.... to my best knowlege ther is no wood in it.... it is completely flexible and more or less a dust cover at best.

This is why I sold mine.

If they are making the cover different now then maybe I'm wrong... I bought mine back in '05.
