OK guys this is totally important. Thus my reason for putting this out there. Imagine this you have a very nice ceremony starting and suddenly you have a god awful noise coming out of your speakers. Your first thought ohhh nooo it must be the officiants mic so you kill it. And grab your hand held wireless mic. After the first round of pant messing your realize that does not do a thing to change the noise. You have 100 people looking at you like "what are you doing" thus the second round of pant messing. Sweat starts to form on your brow quickly as your try and think what to do.

Your next reaction is that if your system is causeing the problem it would be better to shut it down and proceed with out amplification. You reach for the power on your system. And you look up just in time to see the photographer standing very close to your speaker. Reach into his pocket pull out his very nice Iphone and turn it off. Suddenly the heavens open up the sky shines and the rain stops and all the noise is gone. Be warned guys I can honestly say I crapped my pants. :sqerr: The rest of the ceremony and reception went fantastic and when the photographer sends me a few photos of the first dance with the bliss I will post them. I just wanted to share this with you guys to give you a heads up that this can happen. Watch the video and you will hear the sound that made the DJ mess his pants. By the way the groom was very aware of what happen.

I can feel for you on this....did a wedding where the minister ( a lady) told everyone to shut off their cell phones during the ceremony....mine was off. When as she began the ceremony....that sound came from my speakers....I unplug the lights thinking it was that...didnt help....then I recognized the sound from when my cell phone went off a few weeks earlier....saw someone answer their phone. Minister wasnt happy with me until I informed them that someone put cell phone on vibrate and the sound came through my speakers....technology isnt it just wonderful

Yeah, had that happen too, ever since the GSM phones came out this can happen. I've seen/heard it happen on the CBS news before.

I had move my clock radio near my bed because of this too. During the night the noise would come out of the speakers on it without the radio even being on.

Which reminds me of another interference story. When I was in high school, I had a small guitar amp next to my bed, many times I would wake up hearing a muffled voice in my room and finally figured out it was coming out of the amp, and it was turned off. Turns out our neighbor was a big time HAM radio guy and was running some illegal power. I went to his house and told him what was happening, never happened again, guess he didn't want the FCC to come knocking.

I like to keep my cell phone on at events mainly because I don't wear a watch or for emergencies, etc. I put it on silent but I do notice if it's near my mic receivers, it will pick up the signal sometimes, so I put it on the table to the side. Mine is not a GSM either.

GSM?

"Game Show Mania" ????

'Splain Lucy.... please?

Thanks,

Joe

PS: I used to have an issue with my Nextel being too close to speakers & an ungodly ticking/clicking noise. Been ok since going to a BB.

Now to be exact this was not our Bose system we do have a ceremony system for ceremonies in different area's in a venue. This is our ceremony system. It has changed a little bit in the last couple of years. A better mixer less wires and the ability to run up to 4 hand held wireless mics and 2 lavaliers.

I ran into much the same thing at a ceremony I worked last year... I went around to everyone in the attendance and asked them to turn their phones off ... as I knew this was the cause.... but someone still had theirs on which really annoyed me.... every now and then you could hear the interferance... but, I think everyone did aventually turn their phones off once the ceremony started and all was cool....

Trust me this is not just an iPhone issue... nextel phones have been notoriously noisy.. and this is how I figured out where the interference was comming from....

It's sad, really. And it makes the DJ company look bad.

Are cell phones so important that people have forgotten the basic courtesies of life? It's a wedding. Turn the damn cell phone off.

The bride and groom knew that it was not me and that is what counts the most. There where also a few people that where family and they asked also. It was pretty easy to see where the problem was. The photographer was standing about 2 feet away from my powered speakers and very viewable by all around.

It was pretty obvious when he pulls his Iphone out and turns it off and suddenly the sound is gone baby gone. I could see in his face the sheer pain it caused him to know that his phone had caused a problem at this wonderful ceremony and reception. It was a wonderful reception the bride came to me twice crying and hugging my wife and I telling us how much she loved her reception.

What a sweetheart I told them it was a pleasure to be there MC/DJ and by the way the bliss looked awesome in the venue last night. The photographer will be sending me a few shots he was doing some floor shots shoot up catching the bride and groom during there first dance witht the blue cloud field very visable.

So the question begs to be asked... do you make a brief announcement prior to the start of an event much like you would to introduce yourself and locations of restrooms....

For example:

Welcome to the wonderful confrence center. While you enjoy this evenings presentation we ask that you turn off all cell phones, PDAs and other electronic devices with the exception of camera's and camcorder's for the durration of the event. Thank You.

No I don't for ceremonies, I say nothing till the very end. But from now on I will talk with the officiant about making an announcement. Many times they do this but remember this was his first time. At the end of a ceremony when the bride and groom and wedding party has exited I will usually make an information announcement like this.

"Alright ladies and gentlemen just to let you know our bride and groom will be about ½ hour to 45 minutes while having some of their photos taken. So please take this time to say hi to your family and friends,

Get yourself something to snack on or something to drink ( Check to see if this is being done). Please don’t forget to sign the guest book. And most of all have a great time tonight."

Most of the planners, venues and officiants appreciate this in our area.

Ah yes, and not just HAM. In the 70's juiced CBs were rampant ( Not being the sweet guy I am today a lot of that was my fault. I used to sell my services as a tech to these guys, if ya get my drift.).

transmissions were received clear as a bell on TVs ( channel 5 -in NJ- particularly), radios, even UNATTACHED speakers!

If it makes you feel any better, some of these guys never knew to calibrate and adjust SWR, and blew their own rigs......

Joe is right. These interference signals are not always coming through local amplification. If the signal is strong enough it can be heard through a loudspeaker with a length of speaker cable.

The old CB with linear amp interference came through the speaker wiring. A plant I used to work at, they had the intercom cable strung across the drive where trucks came in and out. Once in awhile we'd hear the truckers' CB transmissions through the plant PA system. One driver was arguing with his missus on the CB and everyone heard it. :D

RE: Turn the phone off!

...Are cell phones so important that people have forgotten the basic courtesies of life? It's a wedding. Turn the damn cell phone off.

Have you taken a college class lately? The older folks are even worse than the kids. The moms (not necessarily MILFs) always seem to have those noxious polyphonic ring tones alerting them to respond to their brood right in the middle of the class.
