Finally got a gigaport and wondering if there is anything I need to do in set up/use that will help me out...or do I just plug and play?

Load the ASIO drivers. Follow the instructions.

Use a direct usb port and always the same one.

I can share with you how mine is connected to my system. Cap was correct, you need to always have it plugged in in the same port where you originally installed it. Some of the female jacks are numbered differently on different gigaports. Once you have configured the outputs, make sure and connect them the same way every time. For instance, I have 0,1 as my headphones. I connect stereo RCA cables from these two outputs to a channel on my mixer. That way I can cue from my mixer. I then connect 2, 3, to my mixer as deck number one. I then connect. 4, 5 to my mixer as deck number two.
My DJ program, allows me to do internal mixing. So whenever I'm using that option, I would then use 0, 1 for my headphones and 2, and 3 for my outgoing music.
I hope I did not confuse you. If you have anymore questions please feel free to ask.

Not following on how to configure the channels...I have 1/2 and 3/4 plugged into my mixer. One thing I'm noticing is a hiccup in the song playing when I load a track into deck #2 on VDJ....any advice there? I'll keep messing around.

I have only used VDJ as a Trial about 3 years ago so I can't answer that. However, there should be a preferences setting on VDJ where you can configure your audio and soundcard settings. Assign your decks and headphones to the selected outputs.

Call me! 99 44/100% sure it's configuration issues.

XP or Vista? That's the basic first step.

Cap, it's Vista...and I basically just plugged and played so sure it's config too. I teach until 2:30, then I go home and plug things in and give you a call. Maybe I'll catch you. If not I'll try tomorrow - taking the Mrs. out tonight for St. Patty's day.

Thanks

I have a gig this afternoon, meetings early evening, so tomorrow would be best.

Kris : Being full time, I sit by my phone from 7:30am to 5:00pm in breathless anticipation of the next phone call. May it'll be yours?

Don't rely on the their drivers. Use default windows WDM and install AISO4ALL.

Your life will be a lot simpler. ;)

Ed: Do explain, please.
Which GigaPort model are you using?
Did you uninstall the ASIO drivers completely, reboot, install the AISO4ALL drivers, plug in the USB device, and it recognized them automatically?
Did your software recognize all four (eight) channels?
To your tin ears [ ;>) ], how did the sound compare to the original ASIO drivers?

Let windows install the default drivers. Then install ASIO4ALL. It's more efficient. ESI/MAYA/Etc are not known for their drivers - just the opposite.

And yes, VDJ is VERY happy. Both on my Maya 44 PCI 6 CH out and 8 out and the HD 8 out. It's the tempo lock that seems smoother - less growling.

Ed : I don't have an issue with the ASIO drivers with my AG using VDJ and/or BPM Studio Profi, yet it's time to violate my own rule [ "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ] and give your graciously shared solution a shot. Thanks, Ed! (at least for the moment, anyway).

Make sure you have a backup plan. I always do.

Before ANY change - even minor, I image the partition to backup.

ASIO4ALL can be tweeked. Refer to the manual. While testing reflex, this was the ONLY way I could use ASIO.
