I took this from craigslist, and as I was reading it, I wondered who will hire this guy. This is just one paragraph from a whole ad that reads the same way. He also uses a yahoo email address.....

I have all professional sound and run off mp3's and CD's I'm not the huge company where it will be a 3,000.00 event. I'm Experienced, professional one of the easiest and nicest people to deal with plus i'm always on time and have references to tell you so! As well I work crowds know what everyone likes have music from every decade, plus I'll make you and you're party smile at the end of the event. If I don't I will give you back 25.00 back if you are not satisfied no questions ask I strive on it!

Read it more than once. It is rather scary that someone would actually advertise and use such poor grammar, punctuation, and spelling. Just because you are low cost doesn't mean you need to post ads as if you are illiterate.
 
I'm not to concerned about the idot that wrote it. I'm more worried about the moron who hires him.:sqerr:
 
When you ask for the $25 refund, he issues it in a foreign money order for $2500, "an honest mistake" on the part of the bank, and asks you to please deposit the check but write him a check now for the difference so that he can pay the medical bill for his sick grandmother in Nigeria.
 
I wouldn't think such an ad would garner much serious attention. The writer seems desparate to get out and play music.

You are probably correct, but where do people go to find $300 wedding DJ's? Craigslist, I'm guessing. This guy's price was $299 for 4 hours.

$300 DJ's can't afford yellow page ads. Heck, maybe they can't even afford web hosting.
 
I think what would be even scarier is if the $25 is a 100% money back guarantee! LOL

Unfortunately many people who use incorrect grammar simply do not realize they are lacking.

This may be because much of our communication today is by voice, e-mail and text messages.

Reading and accepting C U L8TR does not help the writer build skills but most of us do it without thinking.

This guy/gal may still be one heck of a DJ.

Edit: Maybe someone could extend an invitation to this DJ to join our happy band of entertainers.
We might all benefit.

Something tells me this isn't a case of someone posting "as if" they were illiterate... if'n you catch my drift! :sqlaugh:

There's a cat in my market who has funky ads too... Not quite as bad on the illiteracy side, but more along the lines of... Who would market themselves like that, and say those things?

Consider a sample:

"hello,
i see the various djs, the different sounds sytems...what makes me different than my competition...in most cases i charge less than my competitiors...and there are routes you can go that may be cheaper than a dj..for example there is a company charging less for a day of speakers, ipod, mics and board than i charge but in saving money do you want to monitor the system...no sound system is 100 percent self sufficient..and what happens should that supposedly random play mode start playing songs repetively...so i am a human dj that can play primarily from vinyl or from a serrato sytem still utilizing turntables...i know most genres of music but have a confidence that with few exceptions there are verly unlikely to be djs that can touch my knowledge from hip hop to punk to alternative to country...i have a love for old school pimp and ho parties where the funk is on...or maybe you want that true 80's party..

most 4 hour parties within a reasonable distance of sacramento 200.00 with 25bucks each additional hour ...so call now.. with rates being higher like i said for top 40 i don't like, weddings and parties outside of the greater sac area...but like life depending on mood and the ability of you and i to communicate i can be willing to be flexible in pricing..."

But hey... at least he's honest! I mean it's great I guess to specify your desired audience and whatnot and be upfront about the types of events you like to do, but I just think that the overall connotation and vibe is just negative all around, and unless I was someone who wanted the artists and genres he explicitly mentioned at my event, I wouldn't even call him for ANY event for fear that I would get jacked on rates or even worse... "offend" his sensibilities! :sqeek::rofl:

Did anyone else notice that "what makes him different" starts with charging less? :rolleyes:

Undercutting one's competition doesn't necessarily make one different. It just makes one cheap.

While I am in agreement with you regarding the ad, I do have another question:

If I'm wrong, please forgive and ignore- but I get the impression from the above that a Yahoo address is... just not up to snuff? I mean heck, mine is a Peoplepc address and I seem to be doing pretty darn well with it...? Is there an "icky" list? I mean, I know that other than a personal domain, Gmail is now WAY cooler to have than Hotmail used to be.....:sqcool::sqlaugh:

....and I've heard about THOSE people on AOL...:sqrolleyes::sqerr::rofl::sqbiggrin:

Just my opinion, but I think "yahoo" or "aol".com for email seems rather cheesey. Or Hotmail.....

To each their own, but I can't think of it any other way.
