A few days ago I noticed that our local multi-op had new twist in their advertising and was now offering "free light shows" with bookings. Now mind you the only times I've seen their setups they have only consisted of 4 Par cans and 1 Mushroom-like spin and puke.

They've never pushed lighting before in their ads or promotional materials, so I'm wondering if they're trying to emulate us? :sqwink:

do you say that in your ads?

I use the term "FREE" in mine for stuff that I do anyway...

"Light Shows" can be subjective. Very much so. Technically, a 12" mirror ball and pinspot from Spencers could be considered a "light show." ;)

Did you cause this? Nah. More likely, it's a sign of the times. Use the term "free" to entice people into booking a show.

It's gonna catch up with 'em. Once yas offer something for nothing, you'll be expected to keep doing so. :)

Kirby - If that's all they're offering, I would HOPE that it is "free!" :sqwink:

The buzzword for today is "added value." So they take their crappy "lightshow" and advertise it as a "free" bonus add-on. It may be enough to tip the scale in their favor every so often, which makes it worth their while...

I've been offering lights this way for a while now. EVERYONE gets charged for lights; it is part of the package price. If it a daytime event and they are not needed or wanted, there is no reduction in price. This way I am guaranteed ROI instead of hoping that clients will pay extra for "add-ons."

I dont say the word FREE at all

I either put it as lights are included

or the cost for lights are!

Yeah, when I say light show, I mean something different entirely! *lol* That is why I am going to ask our DJ about his light set up directly.

We have done photos at several events where they have provided the music and so far that is the only light setups that I've seen. They don't even bother to wipe the dust and dirt off of them (I guess that would be an extra charge?)

You are correct, Oh Skinny One! :)

Sounds pretty much what we do, it's a whole lot easier for us that way and I believe a whole lot easier for the client.

I really don't think it's us that have prompted their new advertising/promotion. It's a few others here in this general area that are starting to nip at their heels, business-wise.

We fall into the lights are included in the package price and if they don't want them, it's still the same price. :)

We used to have a pretty complicated and convoluted pricing structure, and once we simplified our pricing the bookings seemed to be easier to book.

Kirby - yes
thats why making things simple, is far better for clients in the end
if a person gets confused they will go elsewhere!!

Yeah, that's true. Keep it as simple as possible. Offering a multitude of choices can be confusing. :)

There's a good chance of it Kirby. I have one competitor here that does everything I do about 3 months behind me and there's a few others that I have become a thorn in the side to by doing things different and making them chase me. Whatever your doing keep it up:sqbiggrin:

Now if only we could get you a Facebook group :sqwink:
