This is an add-on to Jeff's thread, I just didn't want to post this in a public forum...members only. I'm all for sharing...to a point.
(Hopefully Fred wasn't mistaken when he said the Big Show is a member only board)

Me too - sharing to a point - there are a few guys that read news that is ten years old and waffle on about it.... Matt...

I don't "get" Facebook at all. It does seem like I am missing out on something I should know about. If there was a beginners conference to attend down in PA / NJ / DE I would likely attend.

There was just a Google conference in my area a few weeks ago, about how to besy use it for business. I found out about it too late or I would have attended that. It was literally about 5 miles from my home.

Chuck with respect mate - kids get it - just read the tabs, links and tinker for an hour you'll be OK :)

Some Sunday or Monday night you are free Chuck let me know I'll call you and give you the walk through. I firmly believe it is something we should all be using especially someone like you with branches like bubble parties and retro parties you could cross promote them

Jeff, I sure would like to take advantage of that offer (even though you made it to Papa)....I signed up for a Facebook account awhile back and am baffled by it. :)

Let me know if you'd be interested in helping this old boy out, if not Thanks anyway...:sqwink:

That is probably why I don't get it..... I think like an old guy. :sqerr:

No problem Kirby. I am usually off Sunday and Monday nights but I have a couple of meetings both nights this week. If I can get in early enough what time is good for you?

Having a fan page is great but I would also suggest having a group

No reason to not have both, although you may end up splitting your potential base, so they would both have to be fairly identical. Keep in mind with Pages you can do more visually as it is meant to be a promotional tool for business. Pages also have a cooler listing under your profile (click the info tab in your profile). Pages list with the avatar and it's own listing, whereas Groups are listed text only all together in a paragraph.

There are definatly benefits to fan pages but from what I have seen groups get picked up in search better than fan pages. There is also the recently updated groups feature which is fairly easy to stay on top of there is no feature I have seen like that for fanpages

Again if you have both, and you are willing to put he work in, they can both benefit you

How about next week then? We can set up a time this week if that's ok with you. I'll charge up my phone.... :sqwink: Gracias.

Groups do seem to do better in search, allowing looser terms to find them. I did notice however that group search results will be sorted by the size of the group.

Another bonus to Pages is that they can be viewed by anybody, without being signed into Facebook.

Although it may seem like it, I'm not pushing one over the other. I've been going back and forth over which one works better for me, because I don't want to spend the time managing both. However it seems that may be unavoidable. For now I am focusing on a Page and have spent this weekend designing my Page. Still not ready...but soon....Mwahahaha!...SOON!

Sounds good to me Kirby you will have to give me a reminder though this old fellow forgets sometimes :sqwink:

When you do a generic search (lets say Disc Jockey) this is true but if you do a specific search (let's say Disc Jockey your market) it throws back profiles and groups with the best results. This is why it's important to have your business name and the fact you are a DJ in your profile. I spent a week trying to go to number one with my group and being beaten by one of my competitors profiles

That's a big asset and I think (just an opinion) these are the pages that will eventually be picked up by the search engines when the no follow is released

I agree Wayde I think they both are going to become a necessary evil.

Another thing to remember is you are working live so it is possible that you can be seen as you are being built. You want to build the best you can on first shot and improve from there

No, no...Pages are not live until you publish them. You must change that setting for people to see them, so you can play til your hearts content. Same with Groups, if you set the Group to Secret, you can also play around until you are ready to go public (so to speak).

Many don't realize that you can move around the various boxes (video, photos, wall, mini-feed, etc), up & down and from the larger column to the smaller column. Or you can simply unselect those boxes you don't intend to use. For instance, I have no video ready to post, so I will remove the Video box from both my Page and my Group.

Thanks Wayde I forgot about the secret setting. I still say though that you should put your best page possible up first before releasing it and work it live after that that way your group doesn't go missing and return often
