YOU guys and gals should be blogging big time - you have plenty to blog about if you do a gig or two each week.

I would go as far as saying that if you don't blog (the way I do) you don't want more business!

I have (here we go) always blogged - no not the freebie ones (although I do use them ;) )

Here you are - I have an all SEO related blog and generally have something to say - I started this one in September and it has just gained a Google PR 4 and is dominating my business area and just popping up in the Miami area.

The domain name was my old dba name which I had hanging around for years so I turned it into a blog and if you comment on it (click on comment above each post) you can log in with your Facebook ID....

Just saying you have to blog this year or you're effed - honest - but - you need to do it correctly and dreckly........ (Google that last word!)

I don't mind helping the more gentlemanly guys here that I like...

where is a good place to start a blog?

Do you link it to your site?

Do you drop your web URL in your blogging..

stupid minds need to know these things....
 
blogs are nice but you don't have to.....

In my case, I use "Yelp" just like a blog. (Google is counting the link to my site from my profile page and several other various pages) The advantage is that you are not confined to the DJ topic. I can review Restaurants, dentists, bowling alleys, Elks Lodges.

Actually, its my topical list of "Five Star Wedding Venues" (another one of my Yelp blogs) that generates a half-dozen calls and e-mails per week. Brides see my reviews of these banquet facilities, and then they hire me for the DJ services.

I was planning on having a blog but now that I'm at Page Rank Four (4), its probably not going to be a big priority any more.

PR REALLY doesn't mean much in the grand scheme of ranking - I have a PR 0 site ranking higher than PR 5 so ?????????
 
Joe The SEO started out as a laugh when whoever it was mentioned Joe the Plumber - I got a PR4 and low rankings - go figure
 
Davy---I'd be on top of SERP in my area EVEN IF I was a "PR 0"

One of my local competitors is a "PR 0" and ranks the same as me.

The only difference between him & me, is that I can sell links from my site for $20/mo, and he cannot.

Also, my site get higher appraisal value for the domain.......$4000 for mine vs $300 for his.

Finally, because my PR is higher, this shows that Google likes my SEO and my key words.
I won't have to work as hard to maintain my SERP position in the Organics.

Lots of slang is harmless but the term dreckly is another example something akin to cool, as in that's cool. Cool could mean something close to "that's hot" depending on who says it and when but in any case represents something good or a desirable quality. In any event this American slang has been around long enough for the public at large to understand the phrase's intent. Dreckly hasn't been around long nor is it in common usage.

2. worthless trash; junk

When first reading the above quoted line, I wondered if we were being encouraged to write in a S*H*I*T*ty or trashy way. It is hard enough to get people to look up good effective communicative words. Hoping a large segment will know this new meaning for an old word is a hail Mary play (another example of common American idiom).

The point is, what you write should be communicative. If it is poorly written, has incorrect usage or grammatical errors a significant segment of your audience will discount your value. Your audience may wonder if this DJ can't write the queen's English will they make grammatical errors at the next function they MC?

I've heard some on these pages discount the value of correctly written prose. I think they're wrong. Few of us are English majors but if we're going to write in a public forum and that communication represents us we should do our best to write well. Failing to do so may make your blog counterproductive. Understand your audience. If they are rappers use all the Hip-Hop slang, dogg and crusty and bling (so '90's) you want. If not you might want to use a standard lexicon for a broader audience.
 
Much ado about nothing old chap - dreckly is the way people say directly in my region of England - no bad words there :sqconfused:

Bit like Ca in Boston and Car everywhere else

The word was dreckly you chav - not dreck did you have to stoop so low as to think the worst and bastardize the Queen's English (My Queen)

If you read Wavy Davy's blogs and business pages, they're all well written.

I think we come here to relax and relay information to one another, his posts are actually really helpful (well most of them:sqwink::sqbiggrin:) the rest he's just having a jolly good time like everyone else.
 
I said it "works like a blog". Yelp members have an "About Me" page (called the Profile page at most UGC-user generated content- sites).

The "About Me" page contains links that are counted highly by Google (even though they are no-follow, the Google Webmaster Tools clearly counts them as part of backlinks).

Folks visit my profile page, or my list of Wedding/Event Venues (the 5-star places), and then some will PM me asking for my DJ information.

When you have active Facebook or Yelp pages, a blog is not really a necessity any more.

Selling links? Chasing links? That's just about dead in the water these days ;)
 
Knowing that Davy is a limey, sounding out "dreckly" makes it all too obvious that he was spelling the word as limeys pronounce it. No harm, no foul.
