Last weekend everything was going awesome I had 3 bookings, 1 in San Francisco(went great), 1 in San Jose Saturday Morning for some people I've been doing events for the last 4 years and 1 on Saturday night(it never happened)
During my setup for the Saturday morning in a new venue, I had to use their one and only service elevator, this thing must be like 40-50 years old if not more. It had the double claw or double doors, the ones you have to pull down for the elevator to work. While in my second trip upstairs, I was closing the front part of the elevator, when the bottom part came rushing up, and crushed my right hand, I can tell you that the devil is really red and stars are white because it was the only thing I could see, my had immediately swelled up, thankfully my wife was with me helping, I couldn't walk out of the job because I had no one else to back me up on the DJ part, so I had to swallow my pain for 6 hours, in the mean time had my wife tell the managers what had happened and file a report with them, they briefly interviewed me saw my hand and asked me talk to them after the work was done.
Boy it sucks, there's no fracture but it seems there's some nerve damage, I have literally no sensation on my pinky and ring fingers, bones are all sore and the hand still swollen, unfortunately for me due to the RA, now I have mirrored pain, which mean my other hand is feeling the same sort of symptoms.
I took me a whole of 15 minutes to write this.
My friends word of advice, when using this type of outdated elevators, make sure you have one of the service people at the hotel operate it for you.
By the way I had to give up the gig at night since I had to go to emergency to have the hand checked out, but right after I was done, I rushed to the where my night event was being held and Apologized in person to the lady that had signed the contract.
