Ice Storm Cripples Our Region

As a matter of fact, it is!
Our spring is way back up on the hill, and it is gravity fed down to the house, through a rather old, leaky pipe. The rest is overflow from the springs (and leaky pipe), and pops up all over the yard, runs under the house, etc.
When I measured the output of the larger ones a couple years ago, it's over 50 gallons a minute, if all put together! If ya do yer math quick, that's about 72,000 gallons per day, of water that traverses through my property, and out the storm drains to the river

We are gettting nailed here in Northern Michigan this year. Right now the skies are blue and the sun is shining and it's a balmy 31 degrees. It's supposed to snow turning to rain tonight, then rain turning to snow tomorrow.

Colleagues: The temperatures dipped to 15 degrees over night. There has been no melt so the trees and power lines continue to snap under the weight of the ice.
We were without commercial power from about 2pm til midnight. That was easy compared to about 15,000 who have been out since Thursday night and will be for another couple of days. For the first time in my memory, locations of shelters were being announced on the local radio stations.
What a mess it's going to be when power (and heat) are restored. Frozen water pipes in these unheated homes, apartments, and assisted living facilities will be bursting everywhere.
We have a 10kw generator that powers our entire home during power outs such as this one. In extended emergencies, our families and neighbors know where they can come to stay warm until the situation resolves.
I gotta get a few pictures of this ice and sun. It's like Superman I's ice home. This morning it's 18 degrees and the sun is shining. What a sparkling diamond-like awesome visual yet utterly destructive.

I have a 600 person Holiday Party tonight and the load in/out is a son-of-a-bitch. Though less than 30 minutes away from home, I'm outta here at least two hours earlier than normal.
Put a 1200watt ceramic style heater in the trailer, a smaller one placed in the Durango, and all the equipment was unloaded into my slightly heated garage but have a propane heater going now as well. My main concern will be the 52" LCD. It's going in the Durango this time.
Glad it missed you, Dan. The folks living farther north into Maine really really got clobbered. They need help and prayer. Reports are saying that as many as 15,000 power company workers from other states are on their way to assist.

The ice on the roads was the worst part. Please be careful out there and watch out for black ice. We've only got one Cap, ya know.

Been many years but we get that about every 10 years. Last one we had 3 inches of ice, and then 5 inches of snow. That will shutdown an Alabama town. I didn't have power for 4 days, I put stuff in the refrigerator that I didn't want to freeze. I moved into one room with a kerosene heater. Heated soup and sandwiches on top of the heater.

We woke up to snow and now its Ice rain with a wind chill and -3 C not going to be a pretty load in. I will need to keep my memories of a hot dance floor and many lovelies to keep me going after the gig.
