Weddings Your usual reception/contract time?

Most halls in my area book 5-hour packages...
so I usually go with that!
Of course, some of these halls have an hour of cocktails
then milk the crap out of dinner, which can take 2-hours...
then leaves you barely enough time to get stuff done.

then, if the crowd deserves another hour, and the hall permits it
charge them the overtime rate.

I also charge by the hour
with my best price for the 5-hour package
and the 6-hour price being more than you would expect
so the price drives people back to my 5-hour comfort zone

My average is 5.5 hours (wedding & reception combined in one location).

Very few weddings this year was just 4 hours. The 4 hours was the 1-5 pm.

Most was 5, and we've done 6-7. The very rare was 8-9.

Even on a Sunday, I've had 5. I'll double my 08s but all of these went the entire 5, and 4 went 6! Don't these people work???

Those 4 were 5-11 pm. On A Freakin Sunday! People were ready to party..

Least popular here Fridays. I cannot recall a Friday in 08. Again, I'll have go double check.

We usually contract for the amount of hours that they'd like & then play it by ear. I'd rather end on a high note. When the party is rockin' they'll gladly pay the OT.

I charge $250 for each add hr. over.
Most of my gigs are 6-7 hrs long. (many times, that's an extra $500 for the extra 2 hrs.)

Most of our weddings are 5 hours. But most of the venues that I work in require the music to be done at 11pm.

Reception Packages

I book them for the reception (4hr minimum pkg, ea. addl. hr billed extra), and then do the ceremony as an "upgrade" that just counts as "the first hour" before the reception starts.

ie

5-6 = "ceremony upgrade"
6-10 = 4hr reception package
10-11 = 1 addl hr.
