Pardon me, I'm new to this
(threads and stuff, not DJing)

Bought a digital audio controller and external hard drive
(finally gave up on 8-tracks)

and was wondering what is the best way to "transport" the hard drive?

it's your basic MyBook, but I figure it was meant to sit on a desk,
and not be loaded in and out every weekend.

anyone have a good plan to store, transport, and protect your HD?

This is a good question,,, I carry mine in my padded computer back-pack.... I do carry a back up in the van...
 
The best way to transport them is to let the women carry them. That's what you bring them for anyway.:sqwink:
 
I have my WD MyBook velcroed into my mixer case. I have had it in there for over two years. It sits in the case in my garage when it's not being used. This is probably not the ideal way to do things though. I really should do a better job of protecting it.

As for the question... like all the others I to carry mine in a computer bag... safe as a baby's bottom.
 
Get a small Pelican brand case. Cut out the foam to fit the drive, or two, and away you go. Waterproof, shock proof and looks really official. It's what I use for my drives.

All modern hard drives are fairly shock proof when the power is off. Unless you drop it off a building, you probably won't damage it too much (other than cracking the case).

I can't begin to count how many times I've accidentally dropped my WD MyBooks and Passports. Never bothered any of the drives, although they look a bit scratched. Still doesn't hurt to take good care of them, mainly so you don't break off any connectors :)
 
Hard shell case with a molded padding. Mine also has an anti-static liner, but you can get custom cases where the padding is anti-static.

I carry my hard drives in their original cartons and egg shell liners.

I have 2 1 terrabyte Drives. One I use and I for a back-up

I was leaning toward the hard shell case with padding...
just wondering if the shock of dropping the case could damage it...
but I am less worried after a few of these posts.

I carry two 500 gig WD's

in a metal case protected in their original boxes and in the metal carry case.:sqwink:

As Rick stated! as long as you don't drop a hard drive while it is powered up it can take a lot of abuse just be carefull to abuse them as little as possible. Even a small impact on a running hard drive can mean it's demise. Most of mine are mounted in system rack cases with the computer, boards and players.
 
had one the WDs connected and it fell 3.5 ft to the concrete surface below. Its still going strong. Thank God!!

I had one that just fell over while running and died! LOL But that is why I like the Seagate drives and warranty, replaced without muss or fuss when it was already three years old!
 
Like it was tnt. Wrap several times in styrofoam, 6 layers of bubblewrap, more styrofoam. Place in hard shell plastic box and pad with pillows. Seal box and wrap with several moving blankets. You can't be to careful.:sqbiggrin:
