Weddings Looking for a cheap DJ since she hired a harpist.

Got an email from a bride about a DJ for her reception next year. She had been to my website saw my base price, and the note under it, saying weddings and receptions will have an additional fee based on requirements.

She ask if I could do it for about $250 under my base fee, because she had hired a harpist to play during the ceremony and that took a large amount of her budget. She also said she would still need sound for the ceremony to mic the harpist and the preacher, and maybe some background music before the harpist started to play. I emailed her my basic rate plus the ceremony and reception additional fees. Gee I wonder if I will hear back from her

Her logic is kind of hard to follow. "I spent a lot of money on harpist for a 20 minute ceremony because I want it to be very high class, so i'm willing to get a 2nd rate DJ for the sound and the reception that last hours".

Reminds me of the time I was asked if I could "cut a break" on my (already moderate) pricing, because they spent all their money on the venue - which one of the most expensive, and difficult to load-in venues in this area.

Hey, all a harpist does is stroke the strings that are right in front of him.
A DJs gotta know which buttons to push on a couple of complicated looking machines.
A DJ must be worth more money than a harpist.

Also, she didn't hire that great of a harpist if she wants a DJ to mic the harp.

If I were a harpist I'd make sure to have my own PA system that was setup SPECIFICALLY for a harp. And in turn charge more for that.

In NLFX's experience, most $100 DJs do not do a good job and use a boombox and just one speaker.
