I get this via email today....wedding is Saturday. She wants this projected. Last minute I could try and use my projector but how could I use this format? In this format it would show project the monogram on a page...not just the monogram.

thoughts?

You can open it in PhotoShop (or any decent image editor), turn the white page invisible, change the black to a color, save it as an image. Then project it or do whatever else you wanted with whatever image progection software you got.

I would do one of two things.

Depending on how last minute, the best option is to rent a ERS (ellipsoidal reflector spotlight) and have a pattern custom made for it (we used to do it all the time, there are probably lighting suppliers in your area that could do it). This is the best way to project only the letters.

As far as using projectors, because of the way projectors work you can not project just the letters. Even when projectors project black, they are projecting something. So yes, the above image would project the letters on a black box. If you put it in a white box, it would do the same thing. One thing you might do is project the black and white image and use a piece of paper, cut out a pattern (or just a circle) and place it in front of the lens.

Ohhh!!!

On a dark floor you shouldn't see the outline. I thought you meant projecting it on a wall. But be careful on a lighter floor (notice all those projections are on dark floors). But on a lighter floor it shouldn't matter.

Kevin, where was the projector mounted in those pics?

Also, what projector do you use?

I use Sharp Notevision 20x 2300 lumens.

This one was done with a Chauvet SX Gobo. See the difference?

The image like Kevin provided is what I use, if you have a good projector all you should see is the white letters, if your projector can't do a good black you might see a grayish box around the white letters. You can see my latest one here.

Very cool, I use the same projector you do. What have you riged up to get it up in the air?

Other other note. If you are projecting on the floor with the projector at your booth, you should rotate the image 180 degrees, so it is readable by the guests. Some projectors can do this, but I just do it as I save the image. If I am not sure where I will setup the projector I will save the image a 0, 90, 180, and 270 degrees to covers most locations.

If you can find a ceiling mount for your projector thats a great start they usually have a pipe thread, then you can either slide a section of pipe down into a tripod stand or around it depending on the size. I also put a 45 degree elbow on mine to give me downward adjustment.

It's very similar to what Mike said. I modified a mount from IKEA. There are some mounts on Geeks.com that would work as well and for half the money. Then I mounted it to an external speaker pole mount.

Yeah, if you are going to use a light I would recommend a Source4ERS. You would get a much sharper and whiter image. Don't skimp on quality when using patterns.
