During my presentation I will do a demonstration of the Grand Intro using the B/G and their Wedding Party's names. I do this so the B/G have something to compare the next DJ to and I ask them to ask any DJs they interview to give them a demonstration. I remind the B/G that there are DJs that might reply that they script all their Intros so that each are unique so their is no way they could do a demonstration. I remind the B/G that they are probably dealing with a DJ that is not confident in their abilities and they might show up on their Wedding Day.

So how will you do if asked to do a on the spot Grand Intro? Good Luck I hope it is better then my demonstration. LOL:sqbiggrin:
 
At the beginning of the presentation I ask them to think about how they want to be introduced. At the end I ask them and proceed to give the presentation.
 
At this time it would be my pleasure to present to you for the first time my presentation on how I would introduce you for the first time at your reception. So, at this time I'd like to direct your attention to the front doors where our bride and groom will enter. Please have camera's ready:

[Announcer's Voice]And.... Now.... The moment we have all been waiting for... at this time I would like to introduce to you for the first time in public... your... new... bride and groom.... the new.... MR and MISSES ROOOOOOCKYYYYYYY STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONEEEEEEEEE......



hahahaha just kidding... sure why not give a preview of what their intro might be like. Heck I would do it loud enough for whomever might be present to hear you never know maybe someone else would like to hire ya to.

I already know that youre ugly and don't have a bose so i have a one up on you there...

I actually do pretty much the same thing, only I don't mention other DJs for 2 reasons 1. I have class, and 2. They usually don't leave with out a contract.

They either leave with a contract or they don't - Which is it? I love the word usually it's so vague.

Class is what I deliver at the event. Class takes a back seat to business when trying to land the event.

Hypothetical - Videographer shoots Porn Film and does Wedding Receptions. Would you let a Bride know that sometime during your presentation if you were a Videographer competing for the event?

P.S. I love Hypothetical's!

no I wouldn't, it is my job to sell myself and my company, I have never and will never speak poorly of another vendor to a client. In this case usually means about 80%-85%.

I think by sharing how we sell on a board like this we can see that there are many different personalities that come into play when choosing our selling styles. I applaud you on taking the High Road but I will choose to take the more Traveled Road.

Between you and me - I don't look at letting the Bride know my competition does Porn Films as talking bad about his business practice. I look at it as informing the Bride so she can make a informed decision.
 
Cesar, I was Chief video editor at my former occupation. Editing video is even more of an art that DJing ever could be! (I know I may get flamed here)...

Photographers & Videographers have been asked one time or another if we would shoot "honeymoon" pics. And we kindly have to decline.

How can a Art that is done in solitude be compared to a art that is done live and in person with no room for editing and redos?

Here is a hypothetical... There is a multi function vendor in my area, dj, videographer, photographer.
We were competing against each other for a Sweet 16.
He is on the NC Sex Offender List for taking in decent liberties with a minor
I know the background about the case and it isnt a case where he was like 18 and she was 17 this was straight up sexual assault of a minor
do you tell the sweet 16's father that XX dj is on the sex offender list? Do you leave a copy of the newspaper article in plain sight?

That is a interesting hypothetical.

If you are comfortable doing it and your willing to accept the consequences, then go for it.

This is one of those subjects as you highlighted by your example of the 18 and 17 year old that I have a problem with.

I had a person from a alarm company knock on my door recently and his pitch for his company was to tell me that there were Sex Offenders living in the area and would I be interested in a alarm system. His approach to me was a total turn off so that was the end of his sales pitch.

If I knew that about a competitor, then the other vendors in town would probably also know. They wouldn't refer him any work and he would go out of business pretty quickly.

If a bride tells me she is going to meet with another DJ, the only thing that I ever say is "Great! He does a great job, we just do things a little differently."

I have more DJs on staff then anyone else in town so when they are booked they refer us and if I were to act any other way they probably wouldn't.
 
When I meet with a prospect I usually tell them good things about my competitor they still usually go with us

Didn't YOU, in another thread, crow about the fact that you sold against a "GWYW" dj and you got the job because you didn't do all the ADD ON stuff like scripted intro's? C'mon. Which field are you playing on?

I guess that I have doing it wrong all of these years...:sqfrown: I just sell myself & my service. I do the best that I can to make each wedding a memorable one. I take my money to the bank & I mind my own business. Where did I go wrong...:sqconfused:
