XP SP2 vs. XP SP3????????????

Next question....what is the difference between XP (service pack 2) and XP (service pack 3).

There is about a $150 difference to buy the OS right now...is the upgrade worth it?
 
The service pak upgrades are free from the Microsoft XP site.
I can't fathom why there would be a difference when you purchase the OS.
Additionally, if you are using the lap top strictly for playing music for your DJ business, I can't see any reason to install any other service pak except service pak 2.


Incidentally, I am running XP with Service PAk 2. I run PCDJ FX. I operate npo other programs whatsoever on my lap top. I never connect to the internet, and all of my music is and has been, ripped directly from CD to an external hard drive (Maxtor 1 TB fire wire)

I have absolutely no operating system problems, hence, I will never up grade the OS any further. There is no reason to. It runs like a charm.
 
Same here. I run maybe 7 services on my Fujitsu with service pack 2 and Dj Traktor 2.6. I won't update as long as possible. Very stable and crash free.
 
There has been some trouble with SP3 not working with some audio drivers.

The office computer I'm currently on (not used for DJing, thankfully) has a problem with this. I bought it used, audio was working with XP built-in drivers...but computer was overloaded with viruses. I wiped the hard drive and installed XP with SP3 and the audio (built into the motherboard) won't work. Tried installing drivers multiple times and even 3 different sound cards to no avail.

Eventually Microsoft will come out with an update that will fix this problem but for now it is an issue.

I haven't experienced that whatsoever. Everything I use, works flawlessly under Vista. I've tested 15-20 sound cards so far, and many pieces of audio software (mine included) :)
 
Aaron, I have thousands of customers using Vista now. Once they get used to it, they don't ever want to go back to XP...

I've had no major complaints about audio problems (no more so than the silly ones, and they happen on XP as well). Vista's audio stack, is much more stable than XPs by the nature of its design.
