What is your favorite opening set?

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
Real DJ's dont play the same set every gig.might as well bring a tape recorder

Ok all joking aside. Even my djs tease me ive been doing the same "Wedding set" on occasion for years

Into Word Up (hard kick drum from cameo laid when Bob goes for the drum solo)

This is why I no longer DJ weddings - I'm soon to be the oldest club jock in Charlotte - twice a week - 70s Disco and Dancefloor Classics

No Bob Seger or C&W ;)

Kyle can't let on right now - there is only one person that knows the name and he's in Michigan......
 
I can't honestly say that I have a standard opening set, but I honestly believe that I am being stubborn by not tapping into ABBOTSFORD's DREAM SET:

I'm not sure I've ever started with the same set. It's possible that I've started with the same song at a few events, but for me, it always depends upon the event and the people who are there. In fact, I usually don't know what songs I'm starting with until within half an hour of starting - even less for events that aren't wedding receptions! :sqembarrassed:
 
Well, "I Will Survive" and "Respect" do quite well back-to-back. They're Chick songs.

I'm like Ducky, always trying to read the group before I'll commit to the opening set....but I like where this thread is going and love to see what is working out there - keep em' coming.

I tend to start with upbeat songs that appeal to the older crowd first and work my way through the generations. Of course that can all change in a second if the older folks are fine with sitting and the younger ones are ready to party.

Wow. Lots of very high-mileage tracks.

At a wedding I open with the most popular song on their request list given the make-up of the group. (i.e. if it's a young crowd I pick the most popular recent hit - if it's an older crowd I pick the most popular classic.) Then I go where the crowd takes me.

I avoid playing things like celebration, etc. until people ask for them. I would rather appear to be taking requests than relying on the same 'ol DJ standards.

If I could have thanked you twice, I would have.

Every job is unique. So, there are no two opening sets.....or sets of any kind for that matter.
