Wedalert is a waste of money. It's a pay per lead site. I was getting a fair amount of activity, so I ponied up some cash. I haven't got a lead since (it's been over 2 years now).

Carolyn:

Good idea, thanks for starting this thread. Many on your list, I have never heard of before.

Thanks,

Kirby

DJ Approved.com is no longer accepting listings.
PartyPop is an absolute waste as far as I'm concerned.

Most major cities have search directories, while maybe not the traffic level of major sites, it is one more place to be listed that could help.

One problem that I have found with some of these sites, is in order to sign up with them in some cases, you're circumventing your own availability and tracking system.

Just some personal advice. Do a search in all 3 major search engines, google, yahoo and MSN. Pretend you are a client looking for DJ services. So perhaps they do a search for DJ in Texas, or Disc Jockey Texas. Find out which services come at the very top of the inquiry. I like to stay within the top 3. If they arent in the top 3 then dont waste your time.

Doug thats a great point, one in particular WeDJ actually uses your own sites keywords and title to promote their own site. Theres nothing illegal about it as far as I know but it should be.

However, many DJs dont know the first thing about SEO (search engine optimization) so this might be a good way to get leads.

This is true!! SEO is part science, research and plain ol' voodoo. It becomes MORE fun when you have a dynamically generated website.

Google is a major crap shoot, however Yahoo and MSN seem to be easier to get on and stay listed with minimal effort. I list currently #6 on Yahoo, and #3 on MSN. I'm like #19 or 20 on Google.

You mean for the search keywords that you are focusing on. I rank # 1 with several keyword searches on both yahoo and MSN.

Google is alot tougher yes, not because of your search terms. Ive discovered that I've moved up slowly in a year. I think google ranks peoples sites who have been around longer higher, which makes sense when you think about it. I used to fall on page 3 and 4 with my keyword terms that I focus on, now I'm on page 2, and I have not changed the wording on my site in quite some time.

Yes I should have qualified that with the key words that I used. My website with the current domain has been up about 9months and it is a dynamically generated site, so I'm happy to get where I am this fast!

Hopefully this year I will have more time to spend on content and tweaking and tying everything together.

Madness,

What you have to determine is how people find you. When they do a search do you think they use keywords such as DJ in Texas or Disc Jockey in Texas. There are hundreds of ways to find DJs. They might put in Texas DJ which changes the way the search engine will rank you for that search.

Here is one rule of thumb that I use. The title page of your site is the most important but you dont want it to long. Keep it under 60 characters including spacing. However, the content on that page has to match the title. So if you put Madness DJ in Texas on the title, somewhere in the content there has to be Madness DJ in Texas.

Its almost impossible to use every possible scenario that someone will find you. Its a bit of trial and error but you really have to follow your Web Statistics to see how people are finding you.

These people annoyed me to no end ( I actually blew a whistle into my phone, or something like that ) but they do wedding stuff:

www.askmarlow.com

They called me every day for about a week. I told them I was not interested but they kept calling.

BTW, I have a Google Adsense campaign and I generally ran in the top 3 every time I check Philadelphia DJ... yes, you pay, but my monthly cost has been about $8.

Papa Deuce-
Glad you talked about Ask Marlow. They also call me every day
I've TOLD them to stop & that hasn't worked.

Dan

Blow a whistle, like I did. :sqerr:
