They may be pushing 40, but the NEW KIDS are returning to the block. NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, who sold millions of records in the late '80s and early '90s, have reunited and plan to release a new album and go on tour. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group's multi-platinum album, "Hangin' Tough."

"The fan response to this has been incredible," band member DONNIE WAHLBERG told the BOSTON HERALD.

WAHLBERG said he was persuaded to get back together with his former bandmates -- JOEY MCINTYRE, brothers JORDAN and JONATHAN KNIGHT and DANNY WOOD -- when they decided to record new music. WAHLBERG said he wrote 80% of the new material with MCINTYRE and JORDAN KNIGHT.

"I had no interest going out on a nostalgia tour and singing the same material," said WAHLBERG, 38. But he added: "We absolutely will do the old songs for sure."

Producer MAURICE STARR formed the group in BOSTON in the 1980s, hoping to recreate the success he had with another teen group from BOSTON, NEW EDITION. At the height of their popularity, NEW KIDS sold out world tours, marketed millions of dollars in merchandise and spawned a SATURDAY morning cartoon.

The group disbanded in 1994. WAHLBERG has acted on television and in movies, while JORDAN KNIGHT, MCINTYRE and WOOD released solo albums. JONATHAN KNIGHT became a real estate developer.

I did have a guy come up and said "I know this sounds bad , but do you have a new kid on the block" song

I told him...i'm not sure what's worse...you asking for it....or me having it.
 
The good news is that they have run out of new Boy Bands

The bad news is that they are recycling the old ones

Wait-- did I say Boy Band? I thought you had to play an instrument to be in a band?
 
As if "Making the Band" wasn't bad enough...now there's "Reusing the Band" featuring the Spice Girls and now, New Kids on the Block. I think I will cryogenically freeze myself; unfreeze me when music becomes original again. :sqeek:

"the Right stuff" is big for us at 30 year old birthday parties, hanging tough is too...
 
It's A Culture

I have a friend who is really ashamed to admit that he was in love with a girl who was in love with the New Kids. She broke his heart and made him cry. In hindsight, he feels stupid about the fact that he had not noticed such a bright red flag.
 
The song " New kids on the block" by the barenaked ladies was the first song i heard of theirs...and then i became a big fan.

that song still is is one of the funniest songs i've ever heard.

we were at an after party for their concert in charlotte at Celebration Station
 
What folks are failing to get is that though it seems Ghastly to some having 80's hair bands, Boy Bands, Girl Power Bands and Classic Rock acts still touring it lays claim to many folks comments about how forgettable todays music is. I cant Imagine seeing Soulja Grampa on tour in 2025. Or Lil Ol John only knowing one lyric to every song WHAT? OH yeah thats the only lyric in his songs duh!!
 
but jon, im sure in 2025 lil wayne and t-pain will still be featured in everyones songs...
