St. Patty's Day music...

There are lots of Irish bands, musicians, vocalists, music out there from Mitch Miller sing-a-longs to the Dropkick Murphys. Can you all suggest good Irish music for a drunken bar crowd? I don't know if that clientele would like to hear "Danny Boy" by the 3 Irish Tenors, for instance.

This will be my first SPD bar gig. Maybe you all can clue me in on what I should expect. I have never even been in a bar as a patron on SPD.

I threw the same question out in another thread with only a couple of responses. What worked better for me was googling different variations of "irish music" "st pattys day music" etc...until I found info pertinent to my needs. You will come across many websites with suggestions of titles and groups THAT way!

My first gig will be my own St. Patrick's Party, I will be featuring everything from the Dropkick Murphys to the Chieftains', to the Irish Rovers. I have three cd's which have a great number of party songs they are "Favorite 50 Irish Pub Songs", "50 Irish Party Songs" and "The Greatest Irish Party Songs."
Good Luck

Great! Thanks for your help on this one. We'll see what happens. I think I'm covered w/ the music at this point.

BTW, check out Metallica's "Whiskey In The Jar." A hard-rockin' take on a great Irish ballad. I'm currently obsessing over it.

Just copy and paste the URL and you should be good to go....

First band in a long time that I would enjoy seeing live in concert, but alas they aren't scheduled anywhere near here....

You're right, they rock! :)

If you want to really stir up the Irish crowd, slide in a Black 47 tune once in a while! The Funky Ceili is a winner!:spcheesy:

Steve, this song has a great Irish feel to it w/o being an old time Irish tune. This is definitely a keeper!

Kirby, thanks for the suggestion. I have the disc right here in front of me! Will check it out.

Madness, thanks for the vids! I'll def include FM in the line up.

This is what I was talking about, boyz! I've never played a SPD crowd, but I can't see a bar clientele getting into some of the more traditional Irish fare. Depends on the clientele, I know. But my idea of SPD is a rollicking good time...something like NYE. Am I right? Either way, with your suggestions, I'll be prepared for both moods.

Thanks for your suggestions.

BTW, in case anyone else is looking for similar music, here you go. I looked up The Pogues on Allmusic.com and they list Similar Artists and also Followers. Here are the lists. Can any of you suggest a Pogues tune or something from one of these other bands?
