On radio, that is. Patrick ain't got nothing on Wolfie, lol.
Where to start?
Let's start with the endless self-promotion that pervades FM radio these days. Not commercials... I understand that commercials are a necessary evil. They pay the utility bills and the royalties.
I'm talking about the constant barrage of station self-promotion. All day and all night, all you hear is endless spots that promote the station's website. "Keyword: race day" or "Keyword: _______" (fill in the blank). Damn but these people put more work into making those annoying website promo spots than they do programming music.
I don't give a care about your website nor your "keywords". STFU and play some music, please. And I don't give a care about your concert ticket promotions. Despite all your pomp and circumstance that constantly interrupts my listening, I am not going to "win" anything.
Here's another thing that irritates me to no end: "The 'New' 94.7." For crissakes, the format change was done last year. It isn't "new" anymore. So STFU already, will yas?
While I'm on a rant I'll let youse Clear Channel people know exactly how I feel: Get your goddamned ballgames off my FM radio. That's what AM is for. Put the ball games and NASCAR crap back on AM where it belongs. I wanna hear music on my FM radio and I don't want it interrupted by sports crapola.
It really pisses me off when I have to shut the FM radio off during weekends because you people have usurped the FM band with your useless sporting events. I do not care to hear about your ball games. Last time I looked, every radio that has been manufactured since the 1920s has AM reception. So take the sports back there. Keep it over there. We listen to FM and we don't want it.
When I was a pup growing up in the '60s, the Country station in Norfolk, WCMS did a simulcast on both FM and AM. The AM station switched to preaching at 9:00 on Sunday mornings. The FM station continued on with music. The AM station went off the air at 6:00 PM. The FM station broadcast 24/7. That was one hell of an incentive to buy an FM radio, which I did just to get away from the preaching and dead air at night.
Now, you've ruined FM... and you wonder why people are paying for satellite radio. I think that's sad.
CC Country music radio is a joke today. Sure, I like Kenny Chesney and George Strait. But not all day long, every day. You people have access to more than that. Christ, you promote the biggest music library, yet you play the same old tracks over and over. Why the hell don't ya play some Kacey Jones for a change? You've got the same promotional releases I have.
You won't play 'em. Why?
Riddle me this.
