Anybody using Gigmasters.com or DiscJockeys.com for leads?

Just curious if it's worth the price of subscription for aquiring more leads and closing more sales? My leads from WEDJ.com have all but dried up. I upped my subscription to WEDJ from silver to gold to put my business at the top of the page in the hopes of generating more leads.

I've considered a paid listing with Discjockeys.com as well.

Since I did some work on my website just a day or so ago, I Googled DJ's in Winston-Salem, NC and instead of showing up at the top of the page as usual, I was down around 6th or even lower.

Gigmasters is only successful if you are able to tweak your listing and obtain reviews from satisfied clients.

Starting 1-1-08, they will rank the listings based 50% on bookings (thru Gigmasters) and 50% on customer reviews (Gigmasters customers only).

I book my fair share thru this service, but only because I've got 5 stars and because I'm willing to pay the 5% booking fee on behalf of the client.

Most prospects don't want to pay the extra 5% and will book outside of Gigmasters, if given the opportunity to do so.

The clients who DO book thru Gigmasters, will write reviews and that is how you get to the top of the heap in their listings.

When the new ranking system goes into effect in January, many 5-star DJs will drop to "4 stars" and many of the 4-star companies will drop to 3 stars.

Only 10% of the companies listed, currently make the "5 star" designation.

Under the new ranking protocol, only about 4-6% will be able to earn the top level.

I predict there will be more companies dropping their listings. Many companies are "No Stars" and never rise to the top.

Matt I have to praise that post. Its truly one of the biggest reasons I invited you here. Please continue doing the good I know you have from within.

Me too, and basically zero leads anymore... like 1 a month. Wonder why? My non WOM leads are mostly coming from Google anymore. ( I have a paid ad )

I signed up with Gigmasters four years ago when it was $149. for 2 Years with No 5% Finders Fee..Now it is $179. for One Year and the Finders Fee..In that two years I booked one show from it and thus cancelled..I received an E-Mail last week with an offer of $25. off if I would come back with a years subscription..That would still be $154 a year with the 5% Finders Fee..No Way, Jose..I have a Paid Listing with discjockeys.com that will expire in February..Not one Booking that I know of unless it's one of those phone calls that say they found me on the internet but don't know where..I will most likely not renew...I do better with Yellow Pages than either of these sites...Another quick thought, after a Google Search, why would someone book from a site with a 5% Finders Fee Regardless of who pays it if right above it is your listing on another site with no such fee?

papa...how many leads does google actually generate for you??

2 - 5 a month.... but in a whole year, my ad costs are under $60.

The only things we've ever gotten from those listing sites are spam and tire kickers. The higher one rises in the site hierarchy, the more spam and tire kickers. Thanks but no thanks.

Our company website is our best advertising. People who wish to find us may do so easily by doing a search online. :)

I used both free listings for wedj and prodj and then paid for two yrs with Wedj with worthwhile leads from both then suddenly all I got was spider bots from allover the place but Canada and no leads. I signed with prodj this yr and may have gotten a couple leads and booked a couple however they didnt claim the site as where they found me in fact a couple came from free sites I had forgotten about signing several yrs back. Im most likely re thinking all of this and going with Google and wedlist as two new avenues.

I've never taken a paid listing for ANY DJ directory.

It is very easy to outrank these directory sites with your own SEO plan specififc to your own unique service niche.

Google, Yahoo, and others helped me close over $250,000 in additional sales in just a few years for no more money than it would cost to have "Gold" listings in a handful of these directory sites.

Don't cross your fingers and hope that people pouring over thousands of DJ listings will single you out for review !! Grab that prospects complete attention and take them straight to your own door.

..........I Googled DJ's.......

I've gotten a very few leads from Discjockeys.com- not worth a paid ad. I get most of my private events from my bar venues.

One thought: Start pushing Yahoo over Google when you talk to people. Google's fine for general info, but lousy for everything else, especially business listings. Try it yourself. Google your business or your professional name, then try it with Yahoo. See what happens.

Also, the paid subscriptions end up being position wars to stay at the top. A waste of time in my humble opinion.

Im agreeing with you Cam to an extent but if you pay for the service with one booked gig its just another place to gain business and really didnt cost anything especially if thos bookings return referrals.

Ditto. I get far more DJs stealing my content than customers looking for a DJ.

I still say if A Google or Yahoo search brings up five sites with your listing..You have redundancy or unneeded duplication..Especially if one such as Gigmasters promotes a 5% Finder's Fee...I think a best case scenario would be one or two Search Engine First Page Web Listings,a Yellow pages Ad,Good Business Cards, and a professional SEO website, which I don't have yet but eventually may..Nothing beats Good Old Word of Mouth.

:sqerr:

Redundancy is NOT a bad thing from my perspective.

Sometimes you need to be in 2 or 3 of the top ten results, in order to have credibility in search results.

One web site alone is not enough to create the necessary branding presence.

Look at Starbucks......they are on practically every street corner in some towns.

Scott Rosenburg calls it the "Billboard Effect"

He told me (many years ago).....don't put all your internet eggs in a single basket. You must spread some $$$ around to a handful of worthy sites: the ones that produce organic results (non-sponsored links).

Of the two sites mentioned at the start of this thread, only GIGMASTERS meets my criterion because it actually comes up independently of my sites in certain key searches. I suppose I could find someone to program my OWN site to make the Google Maps show me on "DJ Wedding Sacramento" but I'm looking good for my site in "Sacramento CA wedding DJs"....

Its a frickin' crap shoot..........I like to throw a small amount of cash into a handful of key listing sites, and then watch the leads pour in.

Compared to a Yellow Pages campaign, a basic 1-year listing in Gigmasters isn't such a bad thing, as long as you follow up with the reviews and the programming of the "Press Kit" (Gigmasters page that pops high in Google).

Actually,My Yellow Pages ad is less than $50. a month..So it isn't that bad..I agree with you about being in more than one directory..I decided to give Respond.com another try after a years absence..One change I see now is you don't have a choice about a Lead..It is automatically sent to you and deducted from your account..I will just set my filters to weed out leads I probably don't want..I'm taking it one month at a time this time around..Gigmasters is out as I am unwilling to pay the 5% Finders Fee and don't want to deal with all the other stuff..Press Kit..Reviews..Bidding,etc. In a way it reminds of another site that says Commission's Due,the amount is up to you..I forget the name of it..Just when I think I am going to drop a listing somewhere, somebody finds me there and books a gig.
