They had a band before midnight which were very good then after midnight a DJ who is killing it. I had to stay and take notes. I love this location, way easier than Times Sq. Easy in/out. My wife said they were gathering in Times Sq before dark. Back that the hotel in 5 mins. Then a toast with wife & Bryan who was acting tipsy after drinking nonalcoholic Champagne. This morning he has a hangover (from nonalcoholic champagne) cant get him to the exercise room with me.

I ended up drinking too much wine and then opened the Johnnie Walker Blue for a few scotches .. I'm ready to go back to bed now.

I got that habit too after other alcohol I tend to call the old Mistress Jack Daniels ;)

Must have been a financial issue.
She backed out on the venue as well.
(she did email us on Sunday to tell us that our services would not be needed)
How much prep work did you do for this event and the client or in this case the bride having financial problems is not your problem. Did you get paid anything at all for this cancellation?

To be fair you get away with something I have not heard of. Working for an agency and also being able to book your own events as well. That's not normal. The multi ops I heard of don't allow a DJ to book their own private events or pass out their own business cards.

So with that being said is the owner offering you any of the retainer they collected? I wouldn't sweat it since you've been working for them for years and they help fill dates for you that you have open.

Most multi ops ive had dealings with do not limit their dj's to only doing there events.. however... that being said...The DJ code stipulates that you never hand out your own cards when doing a multi op event.... Also at times that ive covered an event to help out another dj who couldnt make it...i do not hand out cards or self promote...

I did hear of one dj who went to a party that a friend of his was djing at and handed out his cards...guy was a real douchbag....oh wait...

No prep work because we were waiting for payment and paperwork.
Deadline had passed.
She was not answering phone calls or responding to emails.

It all depends on what you negotiate. I ran a multi comprised of guys that had their own gear and a couple that used mine. The ones that had their own quite often booked themselves elsewhere. When I contracted to a multi-op I booked my own events

That's me. I'm that douchebag ;).

Anytime I do an event for another company if someone asks for a card they get mine. I don't actively seek new business that way but I also don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

I also make that and any other policy I have very clear to the person booking me. There is no sneaking around they know my policy before they sign on. I work for me not them. If they want it another way they can give someone else a call see if they are open. I recon if they are calling me it's a last resort.

That being said going to a party someone else is playing and handing out cards is tacky as hell
