I have a lot of pride in what I do. I take a lot of time and effort in learning about music and what will make every event that I do special. Why you would think otherwise is strange to me-it's clearly a negative reaction to what I've said since you really know nothing about me.

I have high quality equipment and I know how to use it. I practice, I put effort into honing my skills. If you want to take offense to me saying that DJing is a skill that can be learned by many people, then go ahead, be mad. If you really think that anyone can sing well, that's your prerogative. I KNOW that's not the case, but you say that any monkey can sing. Do you really belive that?

A few years ago I knew nothing about DJing, nothing about hosting Karaoke, nothing about audio gear and very little about singing, but I've put in the time and effort to learn. If a no talent person like me can do it then why can't other people? actually, I say that tongue in cheek, because I believe I AM talented. But I realize that there are many other people out there-MANY-who can also do what I do. That's the difference. Some can do it better and some not as good, so what?

The most successful DJs are the ones that have good sales skills, good marketing skills, drive and ambition. I bet there are lots of very good singers and DJS that never make it because they don't have those skills.

its easy to simply downgrade something when its not in your own wheel house and likely very frustrating. This leads to one badmouthing or trying to discredit what others can do. It might actually take skill which one doesnt have and therefore frustration becomes jealousy and then lashing out against begins. When I used to work in the elementary schools I used to see it all to often.

Just for the record, there is nothing to be proud of in using automix or ashamed of. It's a tool. If you don't want to use it, then don't use it. It gives me the chance to talk to people in the audience, go to the bathroom, review my music to see if there are any other songs I want to include or to change the order of songs or to take requests and many more things. If using automix makes me a no talent hack and I'm cheating the audience then I'm a no talent hack and I'm cheating the audience. No one says you have to do it that way. If I've set up the parameters of automix so that it makes smooth, clean tranitions between songs and it sounds good then I see no reason not to use it.

Wiz...software alone gives us the opportunity to be better at what we do as it gives us the time to interact more with the guests when they come up and request songs etc. or we have to quickly consult with the client.

Most of us use automix at times when it is appropriate; that being said it isn't infallible. Dead air; a terrible auto mix, missing intro's aren't acceptable especially during the "dance" portion of the event. That would be akin to saying it's acceptable for Jason Mraz to forget the words to his songs at a concert. No software is perfect........

We are paid to entertain with our selection of music and how we present it, MC, and interact for the guests; not click a button and have absolutely no part in those tasks.

Take a poll; I don't think our job description includes walking out among the crowd for extended chats. I can't remember ever having to use the bathroom during the dance portion of the event...If I did, it was the proverbial 28 second whiz.

You make A LOT of assumptions. I actually screen my music to make sure I don't have the kind of gitches you mentioned. You assume that I just wander around and never stand behind my rig etc. etc. You think the worst of what I do and that's your choice. I'm not going to go round and round with you anymore. You can think whatever bad things you want about me, that's your choice. I take what I do very seriously, ESPECIALLY a wedding or other special event like that. If you want to make belive that I don't care about the clients, that I don't put any effort into preparing for events or whatever you can think of to TRY to run me down, I don't care, because I know what I can do, I know that I care, I know that I take pride in what I do. I don't need to defend what I do to you or justify how I choose to do it. You can go squabble with someone else now.

when one has done these gigs over and over then they can say what they bring is legit and many have spoken in regards to those claims (clients) Until then its mostly hearsay and ones own confidence boost. What we say we can do is nothing until we have shown we do! Singing at the Legion for cab fare is perfectly fine but sustaining a business satisfying 100s of clients over the years with Mad Skillz speaks volumes.

I hope I am not stepping out of line here. Unless someone is being really verbally abusive, I don't see the need to be absolutely clinical. We are all supposed to be adults here not a bunch of Cry Babies! If I say something stupid and someone wants to call me an "AZZ" I have no problem with that in the context of which it is said. Calling someone "stupid" or an "idiot" is not in my book being derogatory. The reasoning that caused that sentiment to be expressed is what should be questioned. If someone, even me, shares something that they are doing that is indeed a stupid thing to do, what is the problem in calling out that person?

Sure we have to be nice to each other but for cripes sake, do we have to sugar coat everything? A super sensitive person can be offended by just about anything but that does not mean others will. So who is to judge that a statement is indeed offensive? Personal attacks without a valid reason is another thing and I think we can all determine when that is happening!

Remember, there is always the "ignore" feature. This forum is filled with a lot of people who are very opinionated. If one posts a Gig Report and expects only "pats on the back" they will be sorely disappointed. If one knows they can't handle the criticism then DON"T Post them.

I hate feeling that I have to watch my every word for fear of offending someone or anyone. I am a straight shooter, I call it as I see it.

Canute, calling someone and idiot or an asshole isn't conducive to constructive conversation that's all. Nobody's asking ya to pussyfoot around just don't call people names.

Look at Steve's post here (http://ourdjtalk.com/threads/39150-Ultramixer-DJ-software?p=495295&viewfull=1#post495295) it's certainly not positive but he made his point without resorting to name calling.

Well my question of the day is if someone is an AzzH**e, what other name is suitable to call them?
Oh BTW I hope calling someone a Jackazz is not off limits, even the Prisident (New ODJT Word) used it on National TV! Can't be that bad, eh? :D
