Issue with VDJ or external HD not responding properly.

Hello all and happy new year. I have an issue where I can have VDJ up and running. Go to my HD on my computer and it will sometimes freeze. It will be working fine and then all of a sudden it will freeze or fade out telling me to either close the program or wait for the program to respond. Does anybody here have a thought as to why this happens? I played in the bar on Friday and Sunday and not an issue. Then on NYE it started to act up again. Please help me. The laptop is a Lenovo and the HD is a Western Digital.

Once the HD wouldn't come up and I had to move the connection on the computer to a different port. What's happening. Please help me. I don't remember having this issue with my old laptop which is a HP. It could have happened but I don't remember it happening.
 
Sleepy HD, corrupted files or agonizing drive.

If you use an external drive .. you most certainly have a backup drive. Did it do the same thing?
 
Most of external hard drive freezing is the method it is connected to the main frame.

Ideally, the external uses its own dedicated (no hubs, powered or otherwise) singularly attached to its very own computer port, and always the same one.

This also includes using quality interface cables cables which should be replaced frequently due to more in-and-out use than designed for.

Also, many drives are green (stop spinning when not used for a given time) to save power. Seriously stupid product design. If that's the case, you'll need to get a low profile power tool that won't let the drive sleep.

The other 1% is user improper settings in VDJ and for that you'll need to go to the VDJ web site and do some research.
