Hi all, i guess all of you must've heard the dual vocal kind of effect , the one that appeared in Cher's Believe. Well i wanna bring about that same kind of effect in Ableton. I did google it and i came up with very complicated directions. I tried downloading the Antares Autotune, but it doesnt come up in the Ableton plugin rack? Dont know if i am missing something or anything. Or is there any other way to go about it. If so pls do let me know. Cos i wanna bring about that effect in a new mix i'm working on. I beleive its called as the 'vocoder' effect..not sure..correct me if i'm wrong pls! Cheers!

Vocoder is a completely different effect... nothing like the "Cher Effect"

to get that, you need the antares autotune and set the parameters to half or even whole notes.... this way you;ll get the "T-Pain" type effect, the Cher Believe effect, or the Kid Rock - Only God Knows Why effect...

I have the hardware unit... it's pretty easy to do...

the actual effect is a combination of an eventide harmonizer and antares autotune if you're doing it in the studio...

It's a funny, but well known story among recording engineers... the engineers who recorded Cher's Believe wanted so bad to keep the source of their cool effect secret that they purposely credited the wrong piece of equipment (the digitech Vocoder Talker Pedal) to try to throw people off... This is why you see people talking about the vocoder.. It has nothing to do with the effect though...

it's long since been figured out, and disgustingly overused...

Gee wiz!! Thanks a zillion for that info!!! So basically i need a hardware unit to bring that effect about huh?! Cant i bring it about with my ableton s/w or anything else!? Would appreciate if you could reply to this too! Thanks again m8! :)

The "Cher Believe" effect was produced by the Antares Vocal processor, which among other things can pitch correct an off key singer in real time against their music track. You can get it as hardware or software.

Thanks so much all..but i happened to come across a free VST Plugin called as G Synth which many claim to serve the same purpose as Auto tune.. and finally i've got it to work in ableton.. am yet to start fiddling around with it and get the results. For those who might want to try it out.. here's the link (where it can downloaded free of any charges)

Or just put the edge of your hand against your adams apple and wiggle it while you sing. :)

Great i'd do it right away...only a small change though.. the hand only would be mine.. the adams apple.. someone else's... A unique 'Hands on' Xperience aye sarge!? lols!
