Finally got a chance to post about it. I went to the DJ expo with Bryan who at the last minute decides yeah, he wants to go. The past two years he blew it off. I must say I had a pretty good time although since he’s only 20, I couldn’t attend the late-night events. I have to say the expo is improving and they are getting more people each year. I found the seminars very useful and got a few golden nuggets out of them. Bryan almost lost his mind because there was a lot of discussion about AI and its uses. He came back, pumped up, and is redoing my Instagram page and a couple of items. At least for me, things started on a high note, I won a Pioneer DJ PLX-CRSS12 Hybrid Direct Drive Turntable valued at $1399 at the Pioneer seminar. I was hoping for the new Pioneer Rev controller but I’ll take what I can get.
Now, I won’t say that the expo was back to its glory days of 20 years ago but you can tell they’re trying. A lot of the larger manufacturers are not there because DJs don’t spend the money. To see the latest lighting you’ll have to go to LDI, the latest sound and audio stuff NAMM, the latest computers CES, and there are quite a few business seminars available. At the expo, I see more families, younger DJs, cut & scratch DJs, and those into the DJ culture on the exhibit floor. In the seminars those into the business side of things. They had silent disco headphone party on the pier again, which was really nice. Interestingly they had DJ Saxy who played her saxophone live. They also had a backpack to try which allowed you to feel more of the low end.
My only real complaint is, there’s no more recording artists performing anymore, I miss the Promo Only events where you would see all of the up-and-coming artists. I think this is my 33th DJ expo in A/C and I can say I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I’m getting ready for my next DJ conference up in Boston in December. The last funny thing that happened was one of my long-time friends from the college market was congratulating me for winning the digital turntable, then turned around and won the ultimate DJ giveaway. Bryan and I had been trying to figure out how we were going to get the stuff into my car, so that offed up not being a issue.
