Carpet or rhino liners for coffin?

It's not difficult to do. Head to your local walmart or auto parts store and pick up a gallon and a spray gun. You need a different one than for paint, and clean it after use. Otherwise, it's just like painting with a compressor only a little more textured. Thin it a fair amount before using....and prep your boxes before you get started.

What paint are you referring to Valerie?

Val, what would you use to prep the boards. I know it probably depends on what type you use.

Just have them well sanded and clean. If you removed carpet, you will want to get as much adhesive off as possible. Even with the texture of the coating, you will see inset screws and blemishes from glue, etc. Sand 'em like you are going to paint them. Wipe them down and make sure they are dry so it cures like it is supposed to. You can at any time add another coat, so don't worry about making it terribly thick the first time over.

The LineX and Rhino Liner material Urathane mixes require specialty mixing and spraying gear and coat to 1/8" thick in one application. There are also epoxy paints that work well also (but even more expensive to purchase).

However there is a latex based material that can be sprayed with a simple textured wall or ceiling hopper gun that holds up fairly well on wood! But takes a lot longer to cure.

Although personally if I were doing speaker or road boxes I I would go with the urathane material. If you already have the air compressor, 2 air dryers, then you will have lowered the startup cost for the system some. All you would need is the two material drums and heaters for each, the line heaters, metering valves, solvent tank and lines, and the gun itself this should lower the application system cost to about $4000! Then of course you will need the vacuum paint booth, air filters, supplied air PBA and a few other odds and ends. So for around $40,000 you should be set to go!

Now $300 doesn't look so bad does it? LOL

Ya'all are giving me a headache! I need a brew! Where is Rick when you need him? :sqfrown:

yeah, Steve, my landlord has one of those machines, its a graco spray rig. This stuff hardens in as little as 8 seconds it is amazing! and then is ready to for heavy duty traffic after 2 hours (for the industrial polyurea)

Travis Travis! I need pricing. I have 4 JBL Bins to do 24x24x40. PM me or something.

I am going to be building a box like Hanks and was wondering if anyone as used or thought of using paint on Rhino liner stuff, like goes on truck beds.
Take a look at this stuff I found on EBAY

Hercules

Please give me your thoughts on this idea. I see it being an easier alternative to applying carpet and very strong. Also good weather proofing. But do not know how good it will look?
I asked the guy and he said 1 quart would do about 15 sq feet. May need to cans not sure. I think carpet would be cheaper but this stuff is bullet proof.

Madness,
The Herculiner will work just fine. That is the same stuff i coated my subs with. I bought a full gallon, think it was $80. came with a textured roller, and a stir stick..

I didn't thin mine out, and the texture is rather rough, (Thinning out and more coats will cure this) I rolled on 2 heavy coats, and then added more material around the corners and edges...

It's been 1.5 years of hard use, and the corners are just starting to wear through now, But a 5 min job with a paint brush will have them looking new again.
I'm very happy with the finish on my boxes, The local bedliner guys wanted a fortune to spray them also......

If i was going to spray Herculiner, I'd thin it 10% with Acetone and use a undercoating gun to apply it
