So I've been doing video for about a year I haven't pushed it a whole lot but I've done enough to more than pay my subscription and initial investment back so far. I enjoy doing video it was a great move on my part it was something I always wanted to try out but never could see getting the investment back as it was a great expense to do it right years ago. I jumped in and thought of it as a hobby more than a business but it has worked out well for me so far.

I would like to take it to the next level and start doing alot more it would be great especially in the slow months but here's my predicament....I hate VDJ....I've used it on all my video shows for the last year and i just don't like it. Maybe I need to toy with it more but I don't see that happening

I want to use Mixmeister Pro but my subscription is in MP4 format MM only plays AVI or WMV so if I want to use it I have to rip my collection which is now about 4000 videos

So here are my questions....

How much would it degrade the original quality by ripping it to one of the other formats? I'm using a 2700 lumen projector shooting it on to a 10Ft spandex screen would the difference even be noticed. If i were to change it to HDTVs in the future would the difference be noticed? If I were to rip them I would still store the originals so future quality probably wouldn't be that big a deal

Which would be better to rip to AVI or WMV? Is there a difference in quality?

How long would it take to rip 4000 videos?

What would be the best software to use to rip them?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I toyed with Serato for audio some years ago I found it to be alot like VDJ but it may be worth a shot. I'll have to see if they have a demo I can play with

You can convert your MP4 files quite quickly and easily with a video converter. I use Cucusoft (http://www.cucusoft.com/ultimate-dvd-video-converter-suite.aspx) and it works pretty good. I have the Ultimate DVD Ripper, which also has the converter, but you could get the Cucusoft Video Converter Ultimate for $39 and it would do everything you need. I ripped my entire DVD collection and I'm pleased with the results. The quality need not be any different than the originals, but you can choose the options you want. If you want the file size to be smaller, you'll sacrifice quality, just like ripping audio files. The conversion time is dependent on the size of the original video file, your conversion settings, and the speed of your PC, but it goes pretty quickly on my system. There are other conversion programs. I'm pretty sure VLC would work, and it's free.

Jeff, have you tinkered with different skins? A simple change in the VDJ skin can offer a user a whole different experience. While not asking you to justify anything, curiosity begs the the question of what about VDJ that is displeasing you?

On another note, 2700 lumen projector for any video file format is kinda weak.

On a third and final note, any software that limits playback to wmv / avi files is archaic, if not doomed. (H.265 MP4) is getting final tweaks and will be the ideal compression format very soon.

Thanks Bobcat I'll check that out

Cap it's probably me more than the software I'm very used to MM and very comfortable with it. I find I have more control with cue points especially on auto mix and I find the transitions smoother with MM ( I do have some older avi files I used to learn video with MM)

I haven't tried other skins but that might be an option I have only been using the out of the box skin.

I've considered buying a couple of LCD large screen displays but I want to see if I can market it enough to justify more expense. I'm not scared to spend but I don't like to throw it away

Jeff

Jeff, what screen resolution are you using? There are several skins that are ideal and having the correct resolution in the minimized settings saves tons of resources. I'll send you one that may save you oodles of time and trouble. (To me) V-Mix 5.4 is a classic video jock screen with all your needed controls at immediate grasp (especially multiple cue points).

I believe it's 1024X768 Cap but I'll check when I setup this weekend to be sure. If you wouldn't mind I'd love to try that skin

Jeff, you know I LOVE my Mixmeister Pro but careful using it with video... Are you using Pro 5 or Pro 6?

I'm using 6 but I also have 7 Fusion with Video but I've only used it a few times I prefer 6. Why would you say be careful Steve is there common problems?

Thanks Steve I'll check that out....I'm not a fan of Fusion either I used it 3 or 4 times switched back to 6

I just looked at the first post in the thread it may have been the hardware he was using that was causing alot of his problem....He's running 1 gig of Ram with one and 2 gig on the other. I'm nervous using 6 gig lol
