I received this email from Gig Salad of all places as I still have an account there, but after reading it, I know this is exactly what was trying to be attempted on me 2 weeks ago

Stay sharp out there!

We want you to be aware of a sneaky new tactic we’re seeing targeting performers and service providers on GigSalad.

What happens is that a “planner” will ask to discuss event details over Google Meet or Zoom, which sounds innocent enough. But their real goal is to get your email address so they can send you a fake meeting link designed to compromise your device.

This is just one of the possible scams out there. We’ve put together a full guide covering the most common red flags to watch for and what to do if something feels off.

I did get the email, but knew something was off with the communication from the unknown planner that I never heard of before. It is sad that you can't even trust potential new leads/business these days. The communication from the source was very short, and out of the blue which was the red flag. Did not click anything, deleted emails.

I remember years ago I got contacted about doing an event. I believe it was a wedding. It was supposed to be a band doing the event and they needed a DJ to help with the event.

I was sent 4 money orders and I was to cash the money orders and give the money to the band and the rest of the money was to go to us.

I didn't realize the money orders said they were good for up to $2,500 each and I should have known then that the money orders were fake. I took them to the bank and good thing they weren't deposited into my account or I would responsible to pay the money back.

I had to wait till the bank closed and was asked how did I get the money orders. I told them and showed a business card. Nothing happened. I found out the bank uses a machine that they run a check or money order through to check to see if it's real or not.
