a non DJ question dsl modem/router

So I know there are a bunch of tech guys on here, my DSL provider supplies us with an action tech GT784WN and it just can't keep up with 4 iphones 5 smart tv's a couple of Ipads and a few laptops that seem to be in constant use in our home, obviously TDS is of no help action tech actually told me to buy something else, can anyone help or offer a suggestion on a DSL router combo or other solution

What can't keep up .. the internet connection or the wireless connection?

If it's the internet side, it may just be the DSL line itself. I had to have the phone company check my lines when I had it and they changed some "buffers" (as they called them) down the street, which helped a bit.

If it's the wireless piece, you can usually bypass the wireless on the unit bu plugging in either a wireless access point or another wireless router (turning off the DHCP functionality) and connect to that (especially if your devices use dual-band "n" technology.

Who is your service provider? What speed is is you service. When you are alone turn off all devices and if you have a computer hooked up to this router directly try this site to see if you are getting the speed you are paying for.

I'm with Dan. Sounds like you don't have enough bandwidth to support the number and types of devices. We had DSL and I think it topped out at like 6mps. After adding it up it choked after an amazon stream and one xbox connection. We went to comcast (cable) and it's much better.

DSL is basically a low bandwidth product with too many variables at play.
Nothing beats cable for home service.
DSL tops out around 16mbps in most areas.
Cable starts around 20mbps in most areas.
DSL is commonly referred to as narrow-band.
Cable is Broad-band.
DSL comes over analog lines and is converted to digital.
Cable is digital with no conversion per se.
This sort of over simplifies things but is the basics of home internet service.

Not to say that cable does not have problems it can at times.
Not to say that DSL does not serve a purpose it can for some.
Cable is usually more expensive after the promo time ends.
DSL can stay the same price for years.
You have a choice and you get what you pay for most of the time.
Can you tell I work for a cable company as a field technician?
Mistakes common to cable? The customer modifies the install by moving the modem or replacing a cable or splitter with store bought, adding a tv to the same room as the modem themselves with store bought parts.
If you want it done right use your cable service techs to install and modify things at your house. Repair and install services are not that expensive. DIY can be!
