These kind of weekends can make you feel good about being a DJ. I did my best friends wife 50th birthday party this past Friday and it was over the top! People came there to party! The event went great! I played my ass off that night! It went so well that some people came up to me that night talking about having us to come do an event for them.

One of the guys working in this restaurant liked what I did so much that he even asked for a business card. I had a great time doing this party!

The next day we're unloading the van to do another birthday party and I got a phone call. It was from a lady who happened to be in the restaurant at the time. She wasn't a part of the party there at all. She was just there with either her husband or Fiance. She got my number some how and was calling me about me possibly doing her wedding this year. She said they were on a budget and had been looking at some DJ's that would do it for $300.00. She said she didn't like those DJ's because they didn't have the music she wanted. She wants a nice mixture to please both young and old. She said she was 50. She finally asked my age and I told her I was 55. So basically she is looking for a DJ around my age that will know what to play for the older people that will be there as well as pleasing the 25-30 year olds.

I told her I would call her later today as I'm busy this afternoon. Wish me good luck on getting this wedding. She said to me she just loved the songs I played that night and we talked for a few minutes about the old clubs that used to be around back in the 80's. She said she was there for 45 minutes to an hour. I'm going to call her later to see if I can setup a date to have a meeting with her this week. Got to get ready to take a shower. Have a great day all.

Congrats on the great weekend, hope the other birthday went good also. And hoping you land the potential wedding client! Great Job!
The other birthday party was just something to do. They wanted to know how much would we charge to stay for 2 more hours. It was 3am and we were done. Plus I had something very important to do that afternoon. I just couldn't stay any longer.

One guy asked what they were going to do for music? At that point that wasn't my problem. I heard some music from somewhere. I never bothered to find out where it was coming from.

You've heard it from everyone here.
The more work you DO, the more work you GET!
Go get 'em!

I need to tell this. I called this lady twice and left 2 messages. I hope she gets back to me. She did mention when we did talk Saturday that she had contacted other DJ's who said they would do her 6 hour wedding for $300.00. She said she felt none of them had the music she wanted for her wedding. She said she wanted stuff that would please young and old. The ones she contacted I took were only good for providing today's top 40 stuff and couldn't handle music to please an older crowd.

I like the fact that she is looking for an older DJ to come do her wedding and not just some young DJ that won't suit what she wants. She wanted some oldies along with club music and rap for the 25-30 year olds. Not just someone that only will play rap music all night.

I fear that Randy is correct.
She would have never mentioned "$300" if she was willing to pay more.

Glad your gigs went good. The lady might want you to match the price of the 300 dollar dj.

When she calls say: Look chic, you heard me play, you enjoyed it now to have me it's gonna run you 6 bills toots. Would you like for me to charge that to your credit/debit or EBT card?

News flash....she's not calling you back. She will hire a $300 DJ.
I gave her a price of $600.00 and she balked at that. She said they were looking to spend $400.00-$450.00. So I told her we could do it for $450.00. Now it's up to her. She can go with a $300.00. That's her choice. My choice is to stay at $450.00. She said she had to talk it over with her other half. All I can say if she chooses a $300.00 DJ is good luck. Actually they don't have an exact date yet. They are looking at November or later.

Did you drop something to go to $450? If not, she may assume $600 was just a shot in the dark .. as $450 might be.

$450 for a 6 hour wedding? When she told you her budget you should have told her you are sorry but you cannot do it for that price and if she really wanted you she would rethink her choice. I have a feeling she thought you were cheaper then the $450 price tag. How much did you charge your friend for this birthday party? Did you do it for free? If so I will bet they told people this hence why people want you and want it cheap.

That has been Mix's downfall and he can't seem to shake it.

I'll agree. I cave in way too often instead of quoting a price, leaving it ther and then they decide from that. I try to be a nice guy and it keeps biting me in the butt. Bottom line is I need to get some guts and mean what I say.

Nice guys don't make money. Would you rather be nice and counting your pennies or stick to your guns and be counting the Benjamins.
