Hello all,

I am bringing this topic to ODJT, a place I haven't been to since FB became ubiquitous with DJs.

Recently I've noticed some large-scale defections from FB -- at least two or more notable abscences by folks I've known online for 10+ years.

Don't get me wrong, I am sick of the constant "I'm gonna win the lottery" posts, or the ridiculous "Trump" posts, or many other silly FB memes & rumors.

My favorite is when someone posts about a celebrity who's been dead for 3 years. (Annette Funicello....for example)

I've never participated in any FB games, I finally learned how to shut off those notifications.
I've never "Poked" anyone (that was really dumb, IMO).
But I do find myself being "Sucked down the rabbit hole" for 1-2 hours per day. (It's very addicting)

So, without mentioning any names --- WHY are you avoiding FB? Inquiring minds wanna know!

Many of the same reasons of yours. In my case it started with a hate campaign and grew and grew. FB is great for many things but you have to be careful. I was away from here for a long time also, but came back when I was done with FB. But now I do both, but just less on FB.

I don't avoid it. I check in on the DJ DIY forum .. the others there don't interest me much .. occasionally I'll browse through the few I belong to and it's the same stuff being re-tread. No different than here, but the folks here are better.

Welcome back Matt

Like the others I don't avoid FB I do generally avoid the DJ groups there there's far too many experts with big egos for my liking

I think the last time I posted on one of them (and maybe the first time) it was something about Yamaha amps one of the clique were down on them I stated that I had pretty good luck with them and got a warning from one of the mods that I was causing trouble and would be banned if I kept it up. I wrote back really? Will you defriend me too? Is this grade 7?

This place has changed alot since you were here last it's back to being what it was in the beginning a place for DJ's to hang out and shoot the shit. It might be about gear, bookings, politics, or anything else and although we disagree all the time generally there's no big fight

Hope you'll stay around to enjoy the fun

I'm not avoiding Face Book... I never participated in it to start with.[emoji4] For me, it's a privacy thing. I've always been very careful with my personal information, so FB never attracted me. As for my reluctance to use it limiting my business opportunities, that may be an issue some time in the future, but for now, I have as much business as I want.
Frankly, I've revealed more (about myself) on this forum than I probably should![emoji4]

Facebook is so much gossip and gone so quickly; a forum is easier to navigate and catch up on what's happened since I was last here. I am in very few fb groups that are intended for discussion-for that reason. IMO facebook has it's place, but ongoing discussion really isn't it's strong point. Also, as you mentioned, it's hard to focus on business discussion amidst the ongoing facebook puns, political warfar, and other distractions that pop up in our newsfeeds.

Some people just walk away from facebook all-together, not just particular groups, due to plainly being tired of being sucked into drama or being pummeled by posts they don't want to be part of.

Yea .. we have NO drama here ... :)

It's good to hear from you again Matt. How's your pride and joy (your daughter), Allie is it? I always remember you posting how proud of her you are. Your old account is still active. If you would like me to merge both just holler. If you want a fresh start that's fine too.

Like most have said Facebook has it's place. As Val mentioned on going discussion isn't FB's strong point. We'll take any Facebook defectors. :D Facebook groups are eating many a forums lunch these days.

For my .02, I've joined quite a few DJ groups just to get a read on what's going in the DJ world and what the younger guys are doing but don't post.

For personal stuff, I go back and fourth between loving and hating Facebook. There's times I won't login for a week or two because it's repetitive. The same people are complaining about how bad their life is or posting dumb political garbage. It's not garbage because I disagree it's garbage because it's a cheap shot or a low blow, IMHO.

Currently, I've been keeping chat off and just login to play my favorite game then leave when I'm done. Next week, I'll probably be back to posting again then go back on hiatus when I get tired of it again.

Well... I abandoned Facebook long ago - it was becoming a time sink. My account is still active; the SheWolf uses it to play her games. But I haven't logged in there in years. Don't miss it neither. :)

There are so many productive ways to use one's time... I don't understand this obsession with social networking, racking up hundreds of "friends" and having to be constantly connected to people I don't even know. I'm a little old for imaginary friends. ;)

I'm often busy working up firewood, especially so this time of year. Have to stay 3 years ahead so the stuff has time to cure well. And I've decided to return to piano after a long absence. Practice time is needed.

Reasons for avoiding FB:
1) See reasons for avoiding any contagion.
2) Mark Zuckerberg is a libtard.
3) Too busy surfing porn.
4) Annoying and prevalent lazy grammar practices.
5) Did I mention the abundance of internet porn?
6) Takes time away from more important opportunities, such as anything else..

What is this "internet porn" of which you speak?
