New Mackie SRM Speakers

The finish on the Mackie is similar to the ELX series, though maybe they do a better job of rounding the edges (that's where the ELX series sheds most). Moving up to the JBL/QSC you get duratex finishes which are different.

As far as the wattage .. simply marketing .. and it's probably a design taken from an existing amp, so it's probably just as cheap to make the amp symmetrical even though the HF will never see all that power (and QSC is not the only one to do that).

And I agree .. to each their own. Any of the subs mentioned are good enough for DJing, though if you get a chance to hear the Yorkville LS801s, they are almost in another class (for the money).

Heard and saw the NEW wooden box Mackie. Sounded much better than the old 450. Seems to have plenty of power, too. Have not heard the subwoofer yet. Friend of mine has top and sub. I'll have to go an check out the sub. BTW, the logo man is now green.

Anyone notice the lack of heat sinks or fans on that amp module? I guess their class-D design is so efficient that it doesn't need them...

Which would make them NO different from the ELX line...which has proven itself vulnerable to thermal issues. Got to appreciate the manufacturers who have been bright enough to utilize a small fan.

Not sure .. my older Mackie SRM450s used to be run for hours (most was 10) in the hot summer sun and never had an issue .. and they had no fans. I also was careful not to push them at the same time.

I can only speak about the ELXs. They are super vulnerable in the summer sunlight. Mine shut down while playing dinner music...so volume level was very modest. The K12s (fan cooled) held their own, in the exact same setting. I like the ELXs. Been running them since they came on the scene. I just think the absence of any sort of cooling for onboard amplification is a major mistake.

We got to hear them back in February in Vegas. While they're an upgrade from their previous speakers, they still can't hold a candle to EV or QSC.

I agree .. though the HF sounded cleaner than the 450 (which wasn't too difficult).

Steve it's not just about not pushing them. It's about making sure you have enough speakers and the right speakers for the job so you don't have to.

I agree .. this was merely a statement that some powered speakers without fans can still hold up in tough situations if you treat them right.

I used a litte cloth flap on the back to just cover the back metal plate to keep it cool. Yes that is a problem in sunlight on the black metal making them overheat. When covered the problem went away for me.

Has anyone here heard the Turbosound Milan M10 and M12 powered cabinets? I had an email from one of my suppliers today regarding them but I have actually not really paid a lot of attention to Turbosound over the years due to price for one thing. I have friends with the older quite expensive ones and they are very nice but never really fit into my mostly DJ related market. However, these are cheap enough for me to want to check them out a bit more and getting any feeback from those who have heard them is a good start. If you have, your opinion would be valuable to me :)
