Most people will take the high road in social situations. Were these unsolicited feedback or did you specifically ask for their opinions? Do you think these vendors would actually tell you something they know you don't want to hear? Just sayin'.
I do think you can make a slip cover that is sleek and proffesional looking without all the bulges. Something like Yamaha covers, but in something less sound restrictive, that fits over the speaker but does not hug or stretch over the speaker like the one pictured. In a good color with your monogram on it would look proffesional.

You should also be able to make Lycra coves that are tailored to fit as well ... I think the general purpose nature of the cover may lead to the bulges. A Lycra version with a top panel that matches the top of the speaker would most likely contour to the speaker exactly.
I've only used them once. Had a couple of comments as I was putting them on, unsolicited. Time will tell. If they continue to get noticed I'll keep using them. If they don't, no biggie. It's kinda like that Shure Beta55 that I use. It's different and it gets noticed. I view it as a good move to use it.

My opinion of these has now changed. I love them. In fact, I just had a "eureka" moment and will now be selling these to DJs everywhere, with one slight modification:
