Is DJing Easy? Should You Be Nervous Before An Event? How Important Is The Prep?

No prep is why you need to use youtube for music . Just being sloth .
No it's about getting a request from someone at an event that didn't discuss with you about the music. Now years ago a DJ used records at an event to play music. So if you didn't have a certain song there was nothing you could do about it.

Now people expect a DJ should be able get and play any song at an event. What do you do when a guest comes up and ask for a song you don't have on your HD? People today don't want to hear you tell them you can't play that song because you don't have it. Some DJs don't take requests. Do you?

Let's say that when you've been doing this for a while you should become comfortable with doing an event. What I find interesting is some see what we do as easy. It's not as easy as it looks.

The true question is why did you decide to be a DJ? Some simply see this as a way to make some easy money. Those who have been doing this for a good amount of time know better.
I became a DJ at 16 why ?? To meet girls, the money was secondary at the time

I typically purchase the track from a legitimate source, if it isn’t already on one of the monthly subscription's I pay for, playing off YouTube is a hood dj move

Let me say there are some clients who are very vague as to what they want for their event. So they don't tell you much about what they want you to do. It's like pulling teeth from a bear. So you're left with little to go with which means you have to guess what the client wants. For me this sucks because it's not my event. It's their event.

That part about suggesting another song by that artist instead of the exact song they asked for is something I never heard of. If you have a way to get that exact song, why wouldn't you considering that theirs a way with modern technology today to get a song to play.

Now of course sometimes a person will request a song that's not appropriate for that event and I just tell them the reason why I can't play that request. In some cases it's a song that a client has on their DNP list.

Most of you already know how to prepare for an event. 😁 First it helps to know the date time & location.
When you are playing the correct music for an event & have prepared for that event you will get very few requests .
We are entertainers, not a personal stereo. I prepare a crate for each event and that client. Try putting in a little effect before the event.
That would include going though my equipment. Do I have the proper & right length of cables , power cords , batteries?
Is everything clean, dust free & in good working order? Have I removed the manufactures stickers from the front of my speakers ? 😁
Have I cleaned the ends of my connectors , replaced or repaired any suspects cable ends?

I get what you're saying. Now check this out. You said making sure you have the right music setup for an event prevents a lot of requests. First off I make sure when talking to a potential client I ask what kind of music they want at their event. As I have said before if I don't feel we're not the right DJ for that event I will pass on the event. If I agree to do the event that means we already have the right music to play for that event. So we might get a few requests. Not many.

The last private event I was the DJ I got a request for some Tina Marie. I hadn't played any Tina Marie at an event in a super long time. I had a couple of songs of hers on my HD and played them.

Mix, her Name is Teena Marie; not Tina.
