Immigration Reform?

......many youngsters today expect to start at the top. Then we moan about illegals who are at the bottom of the ladder. :dontknow:

Fred, why do you think they want to start at the top? Lack of respect. Lack of work ethic. Why? Illegals taking up the slack, and businesses getting away with it.

Why are we, as a nation, so spineless? We're breaking laws all over the place. Why is it going unpunished? What's next?

Human life is becoming less and less valuable, and all we do is make excuses for it.

It's absolutely sickening.

Why are we, as a nation, so spineless? We're breaking laws all over the place. Why is it going unpunished? What's next?
Don, the drive-by media has chosen sides. They are, for the most part, Liberals first and journalists second. The lack of a spine could be a product of people afraid of being labelled racist, sexist, xenophibic, etc. in the media and losing careers and reputations over it.

Human life is becoming less and less valuable, and all we do is make excuses for it.

It's absolutely sickening.
Agree totally. One cause might be the callous lack of respect for life brought on by the abortion culture. Hey, dont' like being pregnant? Kill it! Solve your problems just like that.

Have an old geezer in the family sucking the life and income out of everyone? Assisted suicide! Just like that, problem solved.

When people see jerks like OJ Simpson getting away with murder, when they see people using the lamest of excuses to explain their behavior (it's all the fault of my bad childhood, etc.), when they see death row inmates spending their entire lives with appeal after appeal annd never being a "dead man walking," don't think that this just flies by unnoticed.

When heroes are made out of gangsta rappers because they've been shot several times, when gangs are taking kids in the inner cities and turning them into monsters, it all adds up to the attitude you best describe as "human life is becoming less and less valuable."

Lets kill two birds with one stone:

For all those jobs American's are to spoiled to take (OMG I might get my hands dirty or god forbid callouses), give those jobs to the people on welfare who cannot "find" any other work. You want food stamps, Medicaid etc.. WORK! I don't care where you work, or what you do, if you're physically able to work, do something other than sit on your arse all day and complain that you cannot find work.

Let the illegals who have been for a period greater than 2 years get their paperwork, everyone else go back home and come back legally.

The work issue always comes up in immigration talks, yes these people are happy to work for less than minimum wage because lets face it $200 per week is a lot better than the $20 per month they make back home. A majority of the money is sent back home and their families life 100% better because of the extra money made here.

I don't knock any man for the kind of work, or how much he works for in order to provide for his family. BUT we should take care of our own, first. Forcing welfare persons who cannot find a job, or have no education, or what ever the excuse is this week to take these "menial" jobs is a win win situation, IMHO. Every dollar they make, even at a crappy job is one less dollar that comes out of the community pot.

True... very true.

I am reminded of the Mariel Boatlift... was serving aboard ship at the time. Castro saw the opportunity to empty his jails and prisons. That's what he did. Hundreds of convicts were herded to the beach and told to start swimming. We had to pick these people out of the water and take 'em to Florida. They were then turned loose on our streets. How's that for your tax dollars at work? :(

The Mariel Boatlift took advantage of a loophole in America's immigration law... a loophole specifically created to spit in Castro's eye. With a peanut farmer in the Oval Office, the spirit of the law didn't matter. Pandering to Cuban expatriates for votes mattered. Flip the bird to Castro and you've bought a lot of votes in Florida.

Herein lies the rub with so-called "immigration reform". WTF are we "reforming"? The laws are what they are. They have been disregarded for years.

We should be enforcing our laws, not "reforming" them. But I don't know what I'm talkin' about...

This country has been filling with illegals. Now, our "leaders" in Washington are proposing a blanket amnesty for millions of people who have broken our laws? And Jimmy "The Goober" Carter has the nerve to call Dubya a weak leader...

Then there are the enablers... the churches and local help groups who get these people cars, driver's licences, housing and guv'mint assistance. What the heck is up with that?

Fred, I respectfully disagree with you. Here's my take.
This is one issue that really pisses me off. If this bill passes, it will cost the taxpayer 2 1/2 trillion dollars in the long run and it will open the floodgates for these morons who can't even speak english. Then their families will come and we will have to provide for them also. Why do we cater to these people? How many years do we have to work to be eligible for social security? These illegals only have to work in this country 18 months to qualify for benefits. And the system is in trouble now?
Our government is trying to take the easy way out by granting them amnesty because they don't want to deal with the problem. And I don't buy this lame excuse that we need them to fill the low paying jobs and harvest our crops etc etc. Instead of paying the welfare people who are fully capable of working but would rather sit around watching Jerry Springer, put them out in the fields to at least earn all or part of there money. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Secondly, why reward the people for breaking out laws. If so, we will only encourage more to come.
And these people have the nerve to protest and hang our flag upside down underneath theirs. OMG!
Let's round em up, send them packing, and build a fence that will get them out.
Read the following. Kinda long, but worth the effort.

Subject: IF THIS DOESN'T OPEN YOUR EYES NOTHING WILL

From the L.A. Times

1. 40% of all workers in L.A. County ( L.A. County has 10.2 million people)
are working for cash and not paying taxes. This was because they are
predominantly illegal immigrants, working without a green card.
2. 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens.
3. 75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens.
4. Over 2/3 of all births in Los Angeles County are to illegal alien
Mexicans on Medi-Cal, whose births were paid for by taxpayers.
5. Nearly 25% of all inmates in California detention centers
are Mexican nationals here illegally.
6. Over 300,000 illegal aliens in Los Angeles County are living in garages.
7. The FBI reports half of all gang members in Los Angeles
are most likely illegal aliens from south of the border.
8. Nearly 60% of all occupants of HUD properties are illegal.
9. 21 radio stations in L.A. are Spanish speaking.
10. In L.A. County 5.1 million people speak English.
3.9 million speak Spanish.
(There are 10.2 million people in L.A. County ).

(All the above from the Los Angeles Times)

Less than 2% of illegal aliens are picking our crops,
but 29% are on welfare.

Over 70% of the United States ' annual population growth
(and over 90% of California , Florida , and New York )
results from immigration.

The cost of immigration to the American taxpayer in 1997 was,
(after subtracting taxes immigrants pay), a NET $70 BILLION/
year, [Professor Donald Huddle, Rice University ]. The lifetime
fiscal impact (taxes paid minus services used) for the average
adult Mexican immigrant is a NEGATIVE number.

29% of inmates in federal prisons are illegal aliens.

If they can come to this country to raise Hell and demonstrate by
the thousands, WHY can't they take charge over the corruption
in their own country?

We are a bunch of fools for letting this continue.

THE U.S. VS MEXICO

On February 15, 1998, the U.S. and Mexican soccer teams met at the Los Angeles
Coliseum. The crowd was overwhelmingly pro-Mexican even though most lived
in this country. They booed during the National Anthem and U.S. flags were held
upside down. As the match progressed, supporters of the U.S. team were insulted,
pelted with projectiles, punched and spat upon. Beer and trash were thrown at
the U.S. players before and after the match. The coach of the U.S. team, Steve
Sampson said, "This was the most painful experience I have ever had in this
profession."

Did you know that immigrants from Mexico and other non-European countries
can come to this country and get preferences in jobs, education, and government
contracts. It's called affirmative action or racial privilege. The Emperor of Japan
or the President of Mexico could migrate here and immediately be eligible for
special rights unavailable for Americans of European descent.

Corporate America has signed on to the idea that minorities and third world
immigrants should get special, privileged status. Some examples are Exxon,
Texaco, Merrill Lynch, Boeing, Paine Weber, Starbucks and many more.

DID YOU KNOW?

Did you know . that Mexico regularly intercedes on the side
of the defense in criminal cases involving Mexican nationals?

Did you know . that Mexico has NEVER extradited a Mexican
national accused of murder in the U.S. in spite of agreements to do so?
According to the L.A. Times, Orange County , California is home to 275
gangs with 17,000 members, 98% of which are Mexican and Asian.
How's your county doing?

According to a New York Times article dated May 19, 1994, 20 years after
the great influx of legal immigrants from Southeast Asia , 30% are still on
welfare compared to 8% of households nationwide. A Wall Street Journal
editorial dated December 5, 1994 quotes law enforcement officials as stat-
ing that Asian mobsters are the "greatest criminal challenge the country
faces." Not bad for a group that is still under 5% of the population.

Is education important to you? Here are the words of a teacher who spent
over 20 years in the Los Angeles School system. "Imagine teachers in classes
containing 30-40 students of widely varying attention spans and motivation,
many of whom aren't fluent in English. Educators seek learning materials
likely to reach the majority of students and that means fewer words and
math problems and more pictures and multicultural references."

WHEN I WAS YOUNG

I remember hearing about the immigrants that came through Ellis Island .
They wanted to learn English. They wanted to breathe free. They wanted
to become Americans. Now, far too many immigrants come here with de-
mands. They demand to be taught in their own language. They demand spe-
cial privileges ... affirmative action. They demand ethnic studies that glorify
their culture.

NOW .
WHY CAN'T WE SEND THEM HOME

Brother Brian,

I've read and reread your comments... and I can't find a disagreement anywhere. What was it you're disagreein' with again? :D

Fred, I went back and re-read your post. I guess I read through it too quickly and didn't comprehend it totally. It makes a lot sense and I know exactly what you are saying.
Sorry.

It's all good, my friend. :)

Illegal South American labor is acute here in Delaware, especially so Downstate where the chicken plants and farms are located.

Not to be derogatory nor insulting anyone's culture. Just statin' some facts: These illegals and temp workers also cross residential living laws. You've got several families living in apartments or mobile homes that are not designed for the high number of occupants. Downstate Delaware is farm fields and trailer parks.

This has put the state housing authority on the spot. You're not supposed to have 4 families living in an apartment or trailer that's designed for one family. But it's done anyhow. Perdue officially discourages this practice, yet needs the labor. People want their fresh chicken at the grocery.

Quick question:

If the government knows how many illegals are already in the country, why can't they stop counting them and round them up and start tossing them out?

They're breaking the law. If they have a family here, you still deport the illegal you catch. Hell, does a family of American citizens get a break when one of their members is convicted of a crime and goes to prison? Nope, the guilty are cuffed and processed.

It should be the same with the illegals. If you're sending papa back to wherever, soon enough, mama and the brood will find they can't get by and we'll pay the ticket to deport them as well. NO WELFARE OF ANY KIND FOR ILLEGALS.

Wanna see this problem start to resolve itself quickly? Deny them any benefits and start deporting them en masse, and put the National Guard on the border with orders to shoot to kill anyone crossing.

So what if the Presidente of Mexico gets upset. Tell him to tell his people to stay home. So what if the rest of the world passes judgement. They're going to anyway, regardless of what action we take or don't take. We might as well address the problem in the process of being criticized.

Good Lord, you got me all riled up now. :sqerr:

Just when I thought I was safe...

I had a weird thing happen tonight, that has some bearing on this debate...

Remember I posted those pics the other night from the river, where I took the dog for a walk? Right across the street from my house, which my family has owned for almost 100 years.

On any given Saturday or Sunday, you can find a whole bunch of Mexicans, Haitians, Jamaicans, etc., fishing over there for food.

Well, there's a cop that lives over there (rents), and he came out and stopped me tonight, while I was walking my dog by the river. Hand on gun, and in civilian clothes (had his badge on belt). He asked what I was doing, and was not generally pleasant (although I was). He's not a cop in our town, but a village down the road a couple miles.

The reason this peeved me off, is because I see him coming and going, while the illegals are fishing there, and he never approaches them.

So now, I'm a white American, middle class (or upper trailer class) sorta guy. Ok, I do have a pony tail though.

Before somebody asks, yes, I do know many of the folks are illegals. I know, because I hired a couple of the ladies to help take care of my Grandma's diapers, when she couldn't, and the state wouldn't offer any help, because they said she had a house. I did my share, but it was uncomfortable for her, and for me.

So, I am guilty as charged.

But, why should I, born and raised here, veteran, good worker -- be subjected to the interrogation of the locals, while the illegals are not?

I think someone mentioned the 'scared of racism' thing...

Well, I belong to a race too, and am DAMN proud of it, and tired of the BS!

My father was a city cop. I know how they think. Cops approach non-violent situations with their minds already made up. They'll often prejudge. :(

It is a form of reverse racism, Rick. The cop accosted you while ignoring a group of illegals because the illegals can't be prosecuted. You, on the other hand...

Them illegals over there fishing and crabbing don't have any money nor property to lien and the cops know this. Why bother 'em? They'll just be turned loose anyhow. The judge will read the shift captain the riot act and the shift cap will read the officer the riot act.

Rick's out walkin' his dog, well that's different. Here's a guy who might have a dollar that we can squeeze out. Let's see if we can find something. Oh, and he has a ponytail... that means his Daddy isn't settin' in Congress or something. Might have a chance with this one.

Oh yeah... I know how they think.

The cops will never admit what everyone knows... they don't pull over a driver for goin' 5 over the limit because the time and paperwork isn't worth the return. They won't pursue anyone who can't be prosecuted for something.

Unfortunately, illegals can't be squeezed for money they don't have. And the states don't use their authority to detain and deport illegals.

But, why should I, born and raised here, veteran, good worker -- be subjected to the interrogation of the locals, while the illegals are not?
Put Hillary or any other Democrat in the White House next year and this practice will become even more widespread.

As bad as the GOP can be, they are nowhere near as fatal to this country as the Democrats.

John,

I would love to share your enthusiasm, but I think they are all a-holes, on both sides of the coin!

I'd vote for one of my goats, before one of the candidates running on either side...

That's sad, and living in a place where our Founders walked, I am almost ashamed to say it, but they would put me in my place if I didn't!

Rick:

But just about any election nowadays is more about voting against the other person that really voting for someone, isn't it?

Jeremiah:

No blame game. Call it a pre-emptive strike from a future blame game. :sqwink:

good way to put it John...

Its too bad I'm not intelligent enough to take a position on it either way.
It seems like Reagan did some things that set up
Bush to do some things that set up
Clinton to do some things only for
W to do more things that in the end really has
us trying to figure out where to get more oil.

Meanwhile in Darfur....

Then don't bitch and moan about Big Oil while you drive your vehicle and use petroleum-based products, Jeremiah. Our economy runs on oil. A lot of stuff everybody uses on a daily basis is petroleum based. That's the facts.

But just about any election nowadays is more about voting against the other person that really voting for someone, isn't it?

Yep, and that scares the shoot outta me...

Every night I go to bed, I think about the fact, that I walk on the same planks that the original GW and Thom walked on. I think, What can I do to help realize their dreams and aspirations.

What can I do, to improve my country.

I only wish the pols, would feel the same way!

Give 'em a week in my house, and this would be a different country :)

Then don't bitch and moan about Big Oil while you drive your vehicle and use petroleum-based products, Jeremiah. Our economy runs on oil. A lot of stuff everybody uses on a daily basis is petroleum based. That's the facts.

I'm not bitching and moaning brother....my point is that this country has troubles on both sides of the political debate. Oil wasn't the main point of my comment....

Fingerpointing is.
I was just replying and acknowledging what John wrote before me....

Anyway, back to immigration or emmigration, whateva....

Cap'n Rick,

Before you go, remove some floor planks and take 'em with you. Kinda like the little circle of Ryman Auditorium planking on the Opry stage. It has historical significance.

If you haven't done so already... and can do in the future, please visit Thom Jefferson's homeplace, Monticello in Charlottesville, VA.

It's become a tourist attraction yet still retains most of the original. Visitors aren't allowed to tour the famed rotunda room due to the narrow, rickety steps that lead to it. But don't let that deter you... the site is beautiful and fascinating to say the least. Plan to make a day of it. :)

Old Jeff ain't buried under his marker in the cemetary as I understand. Still, the grounds are under regular review by archeological students at UVA. Slave quarters sites have been identified and artifacts are many. The digs continue.

Then there's James Madison's old homeplace in Orange County, VA. You really ought to check it out while you're in the vicinity. The estate contains the last of the old growth forest left in the state. And the gardens are beautiful. :)
