Just wondering what you guys and gals think about it?

I know it's not new but I am in the process of going digital and just wanted some opinions (good or bad) on it and if anyone has used it.

I do have an external hard drive (Western Digital 500gb) and have my computer ready to go. The only other thing is I need an lcd monitor. I do want to minimize my equipment but I do think I still need my Denon mixer so that I can still use my Denon dual deck.

Most consider that unit a toy Koz. I would bypass it. Look into a Dac 2 or even a Dac 3 instead. You won't miss your cd decks using a dac.

I just got one of the Numark Total Controls, so I could map to my software.

Nice little unit, very responsive.

My only complaint with it (and I've been working with it straight thru every day for a week or so), is that they could have put better quality faders in it. They work fine, but don't have a great 'feel' to them, IMHO (I like crossfaders that take more effort to move - personal thing I think).

Knobs and control wheels are great though.

Knobs, faders, wheels..... all the same, eh, Rick? :sqwink:

Koz,
Chris is right, the Hercules is a toy. You can knock the jog wheels quite easily. It's better to spend a little bit more,

I am going to get one of the Hercs as well, so I can map.

As to the wheels, they can be annoying even on the Numark, if you accidentally hit them.

I put an option in my software map to disable the wheels with the touch of a button, then turn them back on when needed.

See, I do listen to you folks (and myself)

Rick,
In my humble azzed nobody cares what I think on these forums opinion, do get a DMC 2.
It is not a toy and has big features that will for sure make it a big seller in the near future.

Rick,

Is it MIDI enabled?

If so, it can map to my new software -- any MIDI device can.

The DMC2 is very sweet. It's got a $400 street price, but it's a serious piece of gear.

I recently purchased the Total Control and I'm pretty happy with it. There's a couple of things that I'd like to change mapping wise, but it's only a matter of time before someone releases a mapper.

Thanks for your advice people. I really can't spend $400. $250 sounds a lot better. Around $100 sounds even better but I didn't get a chance to play with the DJ Console. It does look like a toy but if it does the same job as the other units then its $100 well spent (i guess). I would really like to get the Numark Total Control because of the reviews the users posted on here. I guess I would have to play around with both to actually see which one I would like better. Also, can the DJ Console or the Total Control be rack mountable?

I wouldn't think twice about gigging with the Numark.

What I would probably do (laptop scenario), is build a small mounting platform, that would allow the Numark to take the place of the keyboard (sit on top), yet still have the LCD visible.

On a regular PC or rack mount, it wouldn't be needed.

It feels more comfortable to me, then a rack mount unit -- everything is scrunched together on them...

It is a regular PC that I will be using. The best part, as anyone else knows, is that it will eliminate cds. I am also trying to eliminate a rack or reduce the items on the rack so that it will be lighter than it is now. It's freakin heavy. This time of the year it just sits in my truck and I just take it out at the venues. I live in an upstairs apartment and it doesn't go up there unless the parties are weeks away. I just wish I wasn't on a slim budget so that I can get what I want. My backup cd player will definitely be coming out. My main cd player will stay and will become my backup.
