It was a small conference but very enjoyable. Plenty of nice people and great Conversation. The production value was definitely way better than the other DJ shows I’ve been to. The seminars were very Informative. Lou Paris, Ben Stowe, and Tyler Wallace did a great job with the speaker shootout. Very interesting, no place are you going to hear so many different speakers all in one place. There were a couple of speakers I won’t touch with a ten-foot pole. They started with the big stuff then when got down to the smaller stuff then I am like, hey is it on?

My focus, picking up some new info and meeting people from the ones different than I usually see in A/C or NY. Met up with DJ Toad, he does events around the country & sells the Toadmatic DJ booths. We originally met long ago as we were both in the college market. Met Johnathan Simmons who owes Crown Entertainment in Arkansas. I was watching his YouTube videos during the COVID shutdown. He expanded into larger productions and concerts, purchasing a large JBL VRX something I had my eye on since it was released. Also chatted with a few guys which flew in from the west coast. Definitely heading back next year, well worth the trip. I was also able to stop in to see my son at Northeastern and met with some big shots at the university. I plan on doing a lot more traveling hitting the locations I’ve been putting off, especially when the new EV comes in. Next trip to CES with Bryan, definitely will be hitting the Heart Attack Grill again.

Wish I could have made it out with Bose. Looks like an amazing time. I will be with the awesome Bose crew at MEX (Vegas) in February and Midwest DJs in April.

Ben Stowe (NLFX) is a great person - very smart guy!

Thanks for reporting back. I haven't been to a conference yet it's on my bucket list. Harvest is the closest to me I believe

Yes, that is Rachel. I didn’t get a chance to speak with this time but I watch her stuff on YouTube too. She from around the NY area too as remember seeing her in A/C too.

You must have eagle eyes, I just looked at the photo, I couldn’t who that was just by looking but I remember her was on the floor video recording. But then there aren’t too many women at conferences but more are attending than year's ago. So that's a good thing

They already set the date for 2023, I should be there as long as I’m free. Usually, I go cheaply, the hotel was $90 a night & used points for the train ticket. Likely you can fly into Logan & it's a short subway ride to downtown. I just bake conferences into the standard of what needs to be done each year since I started. I missed the Billboard Disco Conferences in 1978 & 1979 and started with the New Music Seminars in the 1980s in NYC. Back then there were a lot of artists at the conferences, both current and soon-to-be big. They also had a ton of artist showcases at many different clubs for 3 to 4 days. But I don’t think we’ll see. anything like that again. Although the DJ Expo in A/C used to have good artists at the Promo Only event.

I thought I'd get there this year (because I live less than an hour away), but man.... December is the worst time for a show like this, especially in Boston.
Maybe next year.

What sounded the best in the speaker shootout?
I haven’t forgotten to respond. I am still trying to figure out which speaker was which manufacturer/model. They didn’t say exactly which was which as they went through the speakers lined up. I just finished a crap load of work with my other positions and just now got a second to try figure out which was which. I am off for a couple days but of course I’m traveling again and trying to pickup some Xmas presents. I told Santa I’ve been good this year.

This is just my quick & dirty personal option. When they did the larger speakers the EV sounded the best at all settings and was Crystal clear when turned up. It didn’t even sound like they were being pushed. Of course, it was also the largest system. I also liked the JBL and RFC. The RFC the was most compact of the group. Sorry, I don’t have model numbers but these are all the larger two-piece systems with a good-sized sub. The larger LD systems column type sounded nice if you were looking for a more compact system. I will not even comment on the other smaller systems with the smaller subs. Those sounded like they were being pushed hard. it seems like they were asking a lot from a 12” sub. This just confirmed what I heard a couple of years ago when I was considering EV Evolve, not enough output for me. The one thing which makes me nervous is when the columns snap into the sub with a direct connection. I see that as a possible failure point.

As I said it personal opinion and you really need to hear the speakers for yourself and come up with your own opinion. What was nice about this, was as I heard numerous different types of speakers this was the first time that I’d heard so many different speakers one right after the other at the same location, at the same time.

Thanks adj2ent. I currently rock RCF HDM45's for small gigs and RCF HDM45s and RCF 8004s for bigger gigs. Although the HDM45s usually do the job on smaller gigs, the bass head in me misses the true lows. Debating on picking up a JTR Captivator 212 or BassBoss BB15 for its size and portability and to fill in the 'need'.
