So, for some of our gobo pros out there... how do you get a gobo in focus, when it is just the edge of the gobo that is showing out of focus?

I use a Source 4 Jr, but I am going to make the assumption this is mostly caused by the warping of the hot metal and there may be a method that can be used with any fixture to help.

You are correct with your assumption. Less detail in the gobo will help. Something else that helps with spillage and fuzziness (although not necessarily focus as in this case) is a donut.

Also if you are projecting at an angle and not straight on, you might find part of the image to be out of focus. I have a Source 4 Junior Zoom and have experienced the same issue.

The only way I can think of to avoid the focus problem you mentioned is to use a glass gobo and accompanying fixture. Not sure if there is an adaptor that would allow a Jr. Zoom to use glass.

I'm a little fuzzy on the donut thing also, but if I remember, a donut is a holding bracket for the gobo???????????:triwink:

You're as fuzzy as his gobo. LOL. That's called a "pattern holder". It goes inside the light where the donut basically looks like a gel holder with a smaller hole in the middle. It mounts in one of the two gel holder slots on a Source 4 and helps reduce the "flare" around a gobo image.
